Minuteman spending outstrips donations, fees (Simcox-Minuteman)
Washington Times ^ | 11-17-06 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 11/17/2006 7:41:22 AM PST by Anti-Bubba182

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, under fire for a lack of financial accountability, spent nearly $450,000 last year for volunteers to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border -- about $31,000 more than it collected in donations and registration fees -- according to a report released yesterday.[snip]...

[snip].... While the IRS papers document MCDC collections and expenditures through Dec. 31, a reported donation total of $418,493 is significantly less than the $1.6 million MCDC President Chris Simcox told The Washington Times in July that the group had collected in donations since its April 2005 creation. That figure was said to include $1 million in direct MCDC contributions and $600,000 toward the construction of a $55 million border fence. [snip]..

[snip]... In July, several MCDC leaders and volunteers questioned the whereabouts of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of dollars in donations the organization had collected.

Several of the group's top lieutenants either quit or threatened to quit, saying requests to Mr. Simcox for a financial accounting have been ignored. Others said money promised for supplies never reached volunteers at the border.

Mr. Simcox, during the July interview, denied the accusations, describing his critics as "known racialists, anti-Semites and a small handful of disgruntled people who have been terminated from staff or from leadership involvement with the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps over a year ago because they could not meet MCDC standards or adhere to our strict field standard operational procedures."

"We had a new Thermo scope..and 7 new gen 3 night scopes..."

How do the ranges compare between the "Thermo" and the night scopes on a typical half moon night?

Here's a good question too:

[snip]... In July, several MCDC leaders and volunteers questioned the whereabouts of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of dollars in donations the organization had collected.

Where is the other 1.2 million?

There were reports of cash donations collected in the early MMP.

God knows where that went.

I don't have the numbers, but here's the mission statement:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2006/dhs.html
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
The Administration is committed to making sure America continues to welcome the contributions of immigrants. Within DHS, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) continues to improve systems to provide immigrants information and services in a timely, accurate, consistent, courteous and professional manner, while also guaranteeing national security.

Backlog Reduction. The 2006 Budget continues funding for the President’s multi-year $540 million initiative enabling USCIS to reduce the backlog of applications, and ensure a six-month processing standard for all applications by the end of 2006. In 2004, USCIS has continued the focus on quality improvements and expanded national security checks, such as performing background name checks on all applications before approval. Although the checks have initially meant longer processing times, enhanced security will ensure that only eligible applicants are given the right to enter the United States. In addition, USCIS began implementing significant information technology improvements including electronic filing (e-filing) for certain immigration applications.

Over the coming year, the Department will focus on transforming the application process with a greater focus on customers. DHS will establish clear performance milestones, actively monitor progress towards these milestones, and ensure integrity by establishing comprehensive quality assurance measures.

Temporary Worker Program. The Administration is committed to achieving significant immigration reform. Such reform would better control security at our borders, match willing foreign workers with U.S. employers who can not find U.S. workers to fill certain jobs, provide incentives for temporary workers to return to their home countries and families, and protect the rights of legal immigrants while not rewarding illegal immigrants. The 2006 Budget proposes to more than double the funding dedicated to worksite investigations performed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement relative to 2004. The 2006 Budget provides an additional $18 million above the 2005 level.

The USWW (US Welcome Wagon) formerly know as ICE, formerly known as the INS.

Why is Maureen Otis(American Caging) on the list as an Officer. What are her obligations? Is this even proper? I mean her business is recieving major revenue from all this. Why isnt that being asked.

Let's see, we've got over a billion in cash missing in Iraq. What are we going to do about that? I sure would have liked to have had that money to spend on our border fence. God Bless the Minutemen.

I don't know enough about the rules, if any, governing Caging
to say whether it is proper for Otis to be a corporate officer
of MCDC, Inc.

Link

"..I'm interested in page 6 of the Form 990, where it asks if any of the officers of the company are related to any of the companies listed in Part II, which lists the expenses including caging fees.

On the form, it says NO, even though some of the money seems to have gone to Maureen Otis' caging company.

Isn't that a conflict of interest, and shouldn't the question have been answered YES?.."
