In fact, there is some thought that many people voted for her in the Special, and then skipped the General, believing they had already done their duty.

Or voted straight ticket and thought that was okay..... As I said Lazy, uninformed, didn't care, who knows. But a write vote isn't that hard if one truly wants to do so.

Maybe they quit because they got tired of having to pronounce her long, silly name every time they answered the phone.

LOL!

Hey, I believe she ran through staff faster than Sheila Jackson Lee (no hyphen), who has a reputation as being the most difficult congresscritter to work for, at least she can campaign in 08' on that accomplishment

She also called for a congressional investigation into eight staff members who quit abruptly on Tuesday.

I can't believe she investigating staffers who quit. Gee I wonder if they investigate you if you quit McDonald's. It sounds like the voters were smart not to have this crazy for two years.

"Harris County Tax Assessor-Collecter Paul Bettencourt has announced that he will likely seek this seat in 08'."

This is wonderful news!

I live in TX CD-22 and I can't think of any other person who I would prefer more than Paul Bettencourt to represent me in the U.S. House.

Bettencourt is a strong fiscal and social conservative in every regard. I often hear him on KSEV AM 700 radio in Houston and I'm very impressed. If he chooses to run for the seat, he has my vote in the primary election and my pledge for generous financial support in the general election.

I can hardly wait for '08 to have the opportunity to kick Nick Lampson to the curb and replace him with Paul Bettencourt.

erased important files after they left

If she says that they did it after they left, it sounds like she is now accusing them of either hacking the system or breaking into the offices. Her story gets less and less credible.

That's my criticism of the Shelley-Sekula Gibbs, M.D., nomination.

If she had run as Gibbs instead of Sekula-Gibbs, enough folks might have known how to spell it that she could have won. She was a really bad choice for a write-in, based upon her name.

Her behavior in Washington borders on the bizarre.

"Add to that a woman MD with a rating of "A" from the National Rifle Association."

The MD may explain her inability to to deal effectively with staff. They are not always right, but seldom in doubt. So here she comes into a congressional office for a few weeks, determined to change the world on the backs of professionals who have forgotten more than she will ever know about legislating.

Adding a follow up story for reference material.

Investigation of DeLay staff's actions begins

WASHINGTON — The House chief administrative officer opened an investigation Friday into the possible destruction of computer files in the office of newly elected Rep. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs.

The Houston Republican requested the investigation Thursday, saying former staff members erased the files from office computers shortly before they quit as a group Tuesday.

The aides were holdovers of her predecessor, Tom Delay. Five worked in the Washington bureau and two were in the Texas office. An eighth aide was a part-time employee.

An investigation was opened Friday morning, said Salley Collins, a spokeswoman for the House Administration Committee, which oversees the chief administrative office. She said she did not know how long the investigation would take.

David James, who was DeLay's chief of staff and who ran the office DeLay resigned in June, has denied that records were destroyed improperly.

He said he and his colleagues provided Sekula-Gibbs with an electronic or hard copy, or both, of all of their work.

Sekula-Gibbs said that wasn't true.

"Their computers were blank. Blank," she said. "I'm talking about the material that I asked them to work on from the time they were hired."

Sekula-Gibbs said she had asked the aides to work on illegal immigration legislation and the 700 miles of fence to be built on the U.S.-Mexico border. They also were asked to research material on Ellington Field, NASA and Medicare, the congresswoman said.
