Republican Rep. Heather Wilson retained her seat Friday, narrowly winning a fifth term in Congress by defeating Democrat Patricia Madrid and overcoming election-season sentiment that battered GOP incumbents nationwide.
Wilson won New Mexico's 1st Congressional District after Bernalillo County Clerk Mary Herrera released the county's final unofficial count Friday night.
The final unofficial tally was 105,916 votes for Wilson, and 105,037 for Madrid. That gave Wilson a winning margin of 879 votes with roughly 211,000 ballots cast in the race.
''The people of New Mexico have asked me to continue to represent them in the Congress,'' Wilson said Friday night. ''I am humbled by that trust, and I will work every day to continue to earn it.''

I continue to be amazed at how close to the 50/50 mark America is on everything election related.
And Madrid was that incoherent, babbling person in the debate video circulating around before election day? Scary that it was THAT close!
Your on a roll LD. Keep the good news coming!
Your on a roll LD. Keep the good news coming!
How about J.D. Hayworth here in Az.?
Great tagline! I love Chesty Puller
Yes, well, it seems that FR is just full of threads with bad news. I mean, who really wants to read Democratic press releasea?
Although I'm an Arizona resident, I listen to Albuquerque radio quite a bit. I'm happy to see Wilson pull this one out. The global Communist crowd has been brutalizing her for the last year.
These narrow House races are turning out to be not quite as much of a rout as the Dims had expected. Grandma Nancy is deeply saddened;)
Well, I'm afraid JD Hayworth conceded earlier this week.
Madrid spokeswoman Heather Brewer said Democrats would wait for all possible votes to be tallied before making a decision on whether to seek a recount.''The bottom line is we can't make a decision about what to do next. Other people can declare victory but we choose to wait and let democracy play its course,'' Madrid said.
Her comments are the signal for the Rat lawyers to jump in now. Look for the Democrats to challenge the results in court and of course in NM, they are all controlled by the Democrats also.
Great news BUMP!
Now I'm nit picking. LOL
Oh, I missed that. Sheesh
FR is awfully slow this evening.
Earlier the ABQ KRQE Channel 13 website was hacked and brought down by an Islamic site out of Turkey. (I was checking for election results and got the Turkish site. I called the station and they said they didn't know anything about it. I spent an hour on my machine checking for sypware, viruses, etc. and all was o.k. except for some data mining cookies which I got rid of. I called the station back and they said indeed they had been hacked through one of their webpages. You probably won't hear the story anywhere but here.)
I was just thinking that myself. Almost every election is very close now. Nailbitingly close.
I continue to be amazed at how close to the 50/50 mark America is on everything election related.

With respect to Lot's family . . . and God not finding 10 righteous in the city . . . I hope there's at least 10 righteous in most all our cities. But the trend you note is not comforting.
Soddom and Gomorroah didn't go by God's name and clame to be a Godly nation either.
Yep, REALLY S - L - O - W
More great news from the 'Land of Enchantment'. Too bad about JD in AZ though.
I would be amazed if the Dems take any of the remaining uncalled seats. They bagged Simmons, and that is going to be it, unless something really funny comes out of Franklin County, Ohio vis a vis Pryce. They are stuck with 230 seats, falling just short of a symmetrical switch between parties.
So we were declared the winner in NM-01, NC-08 and WA-08, and our candidate conceded in CT-02 and PA-08. OH-15 will commence counting provisionals on Sunday, but it would be very unlikely for Pryce to lose her lead; the FL-13 is being recounted, but it would take a outright cheating by the FL Democrats to win that one, since they want votes left blank on the voting machine to be counted for the Democrat candidate. Are GA-08 and GA-12 final, or do we still have a chance there? And has the Democrat conceded in the WY at-large?
TV in Albuquerque is literally jammed non-stop hate-filled attack ads during every commercial break all day and night for months before each election. She get attacked by the DNC, DCCC, AFL-CIO, Sierra Club, 527s, NM Dems, her opponent and Moron.org directly. The socialists literally fly in activists every other year to run against her, walk precincts, make phone calls and whatnot. She is always behind in the polls and outnumbered and its always a surprise to the media and Dems that she keeps surviving by a couple of points each time.
Heather is much more liberal than I'd like but she is still a better republican than many of those who got dumped this month. And just the fact that she keeps sticking it in their eye every other year makes her a pretty good candidate for some kind of award.
OH-2 is also out. It isn't going to switch.
Right, I had forgotten about the Hamilton County provisionals in OH-02.
Are GA-08 and GA-12 final? I'm hoping against all hope that at least one of those switches to the GOP in a recount, in order to keep alive the GOP's 152-year streak of gaining at least one Dem-held seat in each biennial congressional election.
And is Cubin's victory final?
John Barrow, the Democrat won by 839 votes in Georgia 12. That means no incumbent Democrat was defeated in any Congressional election. They also picked up 6 Governorships to lead 28 to 22.
Lots of work to do.
she has to be upset that Pete announce he will run for relection again because if heather runs even in NM-1 she will cruise to a state wide win.
ain't Heather the first woman grad from the air force acedmeny, or was that Ann?
Burns and Trauner conceded today. Madrid will concede once she can come with an answer to the question.
That leaves Hayes, whose final count came in at +339 this evening last I saw (no recount called for as of yet), the two Ohio seats, which I doubt switch, and the amusing shenanigans going on in FL-13.
"Wilson continues to in a district which was held by the Dems for decades before she took it in 1994. The district has something like a 15-30 point registration advantage for the Dems and yet she still burns them every other year."
All the votes are counted, and Cubin's opponent conceded. I think the same is true regarding concessions in Georgia, but I am not sure. There are not any more votes to count in any event. It's over. What we have left is Ohio, where they don't count until near the end of the month, for some odd reason.
Waiting for the rats' lawyers to get there first ?
Well hooray for "the most moderate Republican in Congress" as she styled herself in her commercials this year.
Even though I used to support her financially (pretty generously, even though I'm not in her district) until this year, I could hardly care less if she got elected this time, since the majority is lost anyway.
The only real upside is that she isn't corrupt AND incompetent like Madird.
Regarding FL-13, it is hard to count votes that were not cast in Sarosota County because of its version of the butterfly ballot.
"The Butterfly Touchscreen"? LOL.
Do you know if there is a automatic trigger for a recount if the election is close (as it is)... What can the Dems get in court except a recount?
Well if we're not past a recount trigger, we're close to it. In court, the Rats will try to have those disqualified ballots reinstated. As Rogle said the other day, the state party is worried about a recount with somebody adding votes to the boxes, though nearly 900 might be a tad difficult.
For me, This makes 3 wins and 1 loss( Hayworth) that I'm aware of. A couple of more, and this would be a news shocker. Haven't heard anything anywhere but here.
Go Heather! That was a nail-biter.
There was a professor working for the dem I used to denate until we got cut off--I'm sure glad Ms. Wilson won--may he with his inane babble be very, truly unhappy right about now!
Congratulations to Rep. Wilson, who won in spite of the Democrat elections supervisor, Herrera, sending 150 ballots to Republican boxes that should have had 1500. What's a few zeros to a Democrat? They won't matter to the Dem majority as they pass the social spending budgets next year either.
NM-1 has been held by Republicans (Manny Lujan, the late Steve Schiff, and Wilson) since the state was reapportioned from 2 At-Large seats to 2 specific geographical districts (as mandated by the Supreme Court) in 1969. Prior to that election, no Republican had won a House seat in NM since 1928.
Doesn't that give us 232-203, assuming Republican holds in FL-13 and TX-23?
Rep Wilson was in USAFA '82, the third class of women to graduate from the Air Force Academy.
Correct, it's 232D-203R with the new Congress.

Which one was the lead singer for Heart?
Yes, you are correct. I forgot about the Jefferson seat, and apparently when I last looked, the Simmons seat had not been added to the Dem totals.
