Hey, why not? I tried with SNL and Letterman a dozen years ago or so. (I even got responses.)
I have a hunch this format won't work in the long run......
I had always hoped someone would come up with a reverse All In The Family type show--- flaky, narcissistic, hypocritical moonbat parents surrounded by conservative kids, etc, or something like that.
Remember what effect All In The Family had on 70's no-minds?
Today's my day for dreaming.
"This Just In" was also a header used by longtime Freeper
Norm Leibmann, a very accomplished TV writer/producer who used to work for Carson and the Tonight Show, among much else. He was called "firehat" on FR, and had a witheringly sarcastic sense of humor. Maybe they could get him as a contributor.
"the other co-host"----he has GOTTA be doing his "Leno impression". He's got the jawline, but not the bulk.
Would be funny to see Dennis Miller star as he used to star in the far left SNL. LOL
I remember 'Not Necesserarily the News' on HBO which was amusing
It never even occurs to me or my wife to watch SNL any more , and I grew up on it from the beginning. It really hasn't been very good at all, for 8-10 years, too hit-or-miss. And when you can't relate to the "musical guests" at all, you should recognize that as a sign.....all the references even on the skits, are to people and things I couldn't care less about---a younger audience is their target. It has become a positively weird experience seeing whatever few minutes of it I have seen in the last several years. I think it's got two years left, unless it REALLY changes its format. One measure of its strength has been the ability to launch people on a wider movie career the way it did so many from the 70s and even 80s---I think Will Ferrell will prove to be the last of them, and end the trend , and signal the end of the show.
I knew there was a reason i liked manny coto on enterprise.
I share your opinion of the current content of SNL. The only contact I have with SNL now is what I read about it elsewhere on the web.
However, if the new right-leaning satirical show from Fox News has several hilarious gems like the recent Nancy Pelosi skit on SNL, they will have a monster hit on their hands. It's a mystery to me how the Pelosi skit got past the liberal producers of SNL.
Fixed.
The material they would have to work with is endless. The possibilities are staggering! I hope they pull it off.
This would be perfect for Dennis Miller
Thanks----that WAS good, just e mailed the link to my wife upstairs. I had forgotten to mention one important consideration among many for not watching SNL anymore:in the old days, too often we had fallen asleep near the end, and woken up after 1 AM with SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO playing, which is something you do NOT want to wake up to.
I'm not a lawyer, but HBO may need to change their title as well as the old title has been used recently...
(And it's a weird bit of synchronicity that conservative TV shows keep trying to use that title.)
According to IMDB.com, she is the recent wife of Kevin Nealon (formerly of SNL).
(listening to Rush)
The guy doing the algore skit who does all those funny ads would be great!! Paul something!!?? lol!!!
There is a limitless ocean of humor that can be directed at the left side of the political spectrum. Since just about all comedians are libs, they never considered all the goofy screwballs that dwell amongst them. For instance have any of the top feminist nutjobs like Gloria Steinem or Betty Friedan ever been roasted on SNL? I thought not.
I think a big part of getting the "being dumb" image to stick is being done by left leaning comedians. Leno has a "Bush is dumb" joke almost every night.
Just think of what could be done by right leaning comedians.
Mirror, mirror on the wall, Algore would come across as the dumbest of them all.
Speaking of the eminently satirically large target of Al Gore, he is without a doubt one of worst public speakers ever. Even worse than Bush. I actually heard both speak in my old hometown of La Crosse, Wisconsin during the 2000 prez election. Dubya was not exactly stimulating, but Gore was a wooden doofus.
