First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.
It was not the only mishap on the two-week trip to Argentina by Barbara (right) and her twin sister Jenna (left).
A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.
The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.
The Secret Service would not comment on the purse snatching, and the First Ladys office said they would not comment on any personal trip made by the daughters. There have been recent reports, however, that Jenna Bush has been living and working in Panama as an intern for UNICEF.

According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident. Someone's head is going to roll for this ....with every terrorist in the world gunning for an American trophy....this detail didn't notice a simple purse snatching right under their noses.

Oh my!
Yes, that is one of the third world toilets, I was there a few months ago.
No way the SS can compete with the 'street' smarts of those maggots, they are tops.
But of course, a lot of those people would love to move here, and some do!
Argh!!!!

LOL. Yeah, your typical 85 year old Nazi would probably be tough enough to stop a freakin' purse snatching. Pathetic display by the Secret Service here. Heads will roll.

Hold your horses, UNICEF, despite the name is independent of the UN. It is currently headed by Ann Veneman who was PResident Bush's secretary of agriculture until 2005.

Wow, I had the complete opposite impression of Buenos Aires when I was there. I thought it was a wonderful place except for the driving. I didn't think the beggars and such were any worse there than in large American cities.
And unlike where many of our hispanic "guests" come from Argentinians can speak English. I felt like my education was wasted when 7 year old kids could speak outstanding English to me and I couldn't speak a word of Spanish to them.
I hope to go back to Argentina some time.
Sucks that this will be some people's only impression of the country.

From the left-wing wackos at
www.wonkette.com:
Bush Twins Spread Trademark Chaos in Latin America

ABC reports that Barbara Bush was the victim of a purse-snatcher in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the middle of a restaurant, right under the noses of the Secret Service. Whove been having troubles of their own:
A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an altercation with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports.
Both twins are in Argentina, though no one will say why...

They do like to have a good time like most young people, and in Argentina they do it until 6 in the morning. It intimidated me. The bars in Oklahoma close at 2 and I'm pretty well done in by then. I don't know how I would make it another 4 hours.

Well, some of us 'locals' have a different impression.
Great land, mostly hard-working people, but the corrupt leadership and ever-present slime-types makes a visit a real pain.
I will go out of my way to NOT go there, ever. After visiting many places, B. Aires is right up there with any city in France as far as my personal 'no visit' list.
Oh well, haven't seen the entire US yet, so not a problem.

I am confused -- I read an interview with the president a while back where he said Jenna was going to be teaching school in Latin America this fall. Now she's interning at UNICEF? A United Nations agency? I am surprised she would work for UNICEF. Surely POTUS and FLOTUS do not approve their daughter working for a United Nations agency. Anyway, how did teaching morph into working for UNICEF, and why on earth would she be in Argentina? With taxpayer-paid security, too.
I am all in favor of the Presidentt's daughters having bodyguards & I do not mind paying taxes for them to have bodyguards (although I would hope they are more competent than these guys seem to have been) but I am not sure I want to pay for bodyguards for junkets abroad esp. to highly unsafe countries where so many people hate their dad. How about they stay home where it will be easier to provide security for them? There are plenty of places where they can have fun right here in the good ole USA.
