MUSLIM terrorists are no more likely to come from places with large Islamic populations than anywhere else, according to Manchester academics.
Dr Ludi Simpson and Dr Nissa Finney studied media reports to map the location of suspects charged under anti-terror laws.
The Manchester university researchers found that the proportion of people who have been charged is no greater in areas with large Muslim populations.
They warn that "branding" areas such as Bradford and Newham, in London, as terrorism hotbeds is not only inaccurate but creates an atmosphere of "prejudice and fear".
Dr Simpson said: "We looked at the 75 cases of Muslims charged under anti-terrorist legislation outlined in the media from 2004 to the present day, where we know the place of residence.
"Their locations are spread pretty evenly across all the places Muslims live and it's not in any way restricted to areas where there are large Muslim populations."
The researchers, from the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research, said the study was hampered by restricted access to the locations of suspects, forcing them to rely on media reports.
Dr Simpson said: "The Crime Prosecution Service was reluctant to provide a more comprehensive list.
"But we've made an application under the Freedom of Information Act which will hopefully allow us to carry out this research in more detail."
Dr Simpson also warned politicians of the dangers of isolating some areas.
He said: "When politicians who want to tackle terrorism target ethnic minorities according to the area they live, it's a very destructive thing and not based on reality.
"The authorities should focus on direct information about terrorist activities and not go by innuendo.
"Branding a particular area as a hotbed of terrorism is immensely damaging and creates prejudice and fear. It's just a fantasy."
Dr Simpson will be taking part in a one-to-one debate on Segregation with Prof Ted Cantle from the Community Cohesion Institute at the Commission for Racial Equality's Race Convention 2006 at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London next week.
What about the friendly poisonings, and murderings conducted by our friend Vlad? I'd call that terrorism also.
Don't know if it is true, but here it is:
Dr. Peter Hammond's book: Slavery, Terrorism and Islam: The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat. www.frontline.org.za/books_videos/sti.htm
As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they will be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone. In fact, they may be featured in articles and films, stereotyped for their colorful uniqueness.
At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs [Europe, Australia, USA and Japan]. Six percent of US prison inmates are Muslim. Like any other minority, they wont integrate, but work to build their own separate community.
From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. South Africa's Muslim population is 2%, but they control 35% of the businesses, a large percentage of the banks and have five Cabinet seats while Christians (77% of the population) have none.
They will push for the introduction of halaal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves (along with threats for failure to comply).
At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia; Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world, but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.
When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. (Ei: car-burnings in France last October.) Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats.
After reaching 20% expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning (India, Mindanao, Philippines).
At 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and ongoing militia warfare [Indonesia].
From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and Jizya (infidel tax). (Sudan, Kosovo, Lebanon and Egypt).
After 80% expect State run ethnic cleansing and genocide [Western Papua (New Guinea), Iran, Biafra, Turkey and North Nigeria]. 10
0% will usher in the peace of "Dar-es-Salaam" - House of Peace - as in Saudi Arabia, Libya and Yemen.
'Roman Catholic 42.6%, Protestant 23.3% (including United Church 9.5%, Anglican 6.8%, Baptist 2.4%, Lutheran 2%), other Christian 4.4%, Muslim 1.9%, other and unspecified 11.8%, none 16% (2001 census)'
If you are implying that the 11.8% other and unspecified are all muslims, then according to the same source the US has 1% muslims and 10% unspecified. That would mean 4.6m muslims in Canada and 33m in the US. Let's hope your assumptions are wrong! ;-)
The muslims by their whining made the point exactly that all muslims are terrorists. Really revealing.
I would think in an effort to make sure you aren't profiling people you would want to make sure you look for Moslem terrorists in Catholic and Lutheran seminaries as well as adult ballroom dancing classes.
They are bred and conditioned and that happens in a controlled environment.
Depends on your definition of terror. Would you class those clowns in the white sheets and the burning crosses as terrorists?
You mean Kleagal Byrds?
Yeah they were terrorists, they have been marginalized into relative obscurity thankfully.
well lets hope so. Such organisations tend to prosper when the economy is declining.
They are trying to prove a negative.
Is not this reasoning specious? In the USA 100% of muslim terrorist cells were located in areas of muslim populations, e.g. Detriot, Northern Virginia, etc. Mosques and Imams apparently play a role in nurturing such cells. Are the British saying that muslim terrorists come from muslim enclaves, but one enclave is just as probable as another? Where there are no muslims, there are no terrorist cells. How about that? Not all muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists have been muslim. Have they figured that out yet?
I've been looking for this as well.
All this tells us is they can't be trusted regardless of their address. Forget about such trivia. How many of those 75 go to the Finsbury mosque? How many non-Muslims have been charged under anti-terrorist legislation?
There's No, Lions, Tigers, or Bears In The Woods!
What's funny is they have 16% subscribing to 'none', and 11.8% subscribing to "other".
Anyway, let's not scare each other ;^)
Islam is not only a breading ground for terrorism but it is an incubator for poverty.
