Putin is more like Beria, who beat Stalin at his own game.

"Historical roller coaster... U.S. withdraw from Vietnam empowers the USSR and deepens the roots of communism, eventually USSR takes on Afghanistan only to suffer a loss to the hands of the Muhajadeen later to become the Taliban which emboldens Islamic Fundamental terrorists into believing that they can beat world Super Powers... This led to the eventual collapse of the USSR followed by 911 and our fight against terror, invading Iraq which the left has turned into Vietnam will start the cycle all over again. Look for a future alignment of Putin and Amadmanjihadi against our interests in the Middle East a new rise of Communism in Russia with an Islamic alliance will dominate the World... Goodbye good ole USA.. Prediction is we have about 10 years left as a free Democratic Republic."

I agree with the historic cyclical pattern here but not the end of the USA. I do believe Russia has created a frankenstein monster in helping Iran build nukes. They did it for one of two reasons:

1) They along with China/North Korea have a plan of conquest and bringing down the USA even temporarily allows this to happen. Iran or North Korea may bear the brunt of our rage when LA or NYC goes up in a nuclear attack, but both puppeteer countries of Russia and China must be held accountable and punished with a retaliatory strike against Bejjing or Moscow if this does occur. Note how China is now building underground cities to survive a limited nuclear war.

2) Russia feels that arming Iran with nukes will keep us out of the Middle East. Problem is President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a nut job, promising the destruction of Israel when they do have nukes which according to them will be this March and then build 25 nuclear weapons per year afterwards. Since Israel will not allow such a build up, a regional war with nuclear weapons would not be surprising.

So either way whether this is a grand scheme or a Western containment strategy of keeping us out of the Middle East doesn't matter, both lead to major conflict. The USA will survive but it will not be a glorified war, more like a loss of 1/3 of mankind as the book of Revelations foretells.

"you gotta admit, taking out two high profile critics in a few months is sending a very clear message to russian dissidents you would have to be hopelessly stupid or naive to not get - don't make the kremlin uncomfortable or you will die."

Yeah, except the people in Russia have more freedom now then in the last 50 years. That means people think they have true free speech to run for politics or speak to the Russian masses with a message of dissent. Look at Yukos. That should have been a clear message to the Russians that the Politbureau still rule Russia and that they have a socialist government, not a true democracy...
