Minuteman group releases financial information (Simcox-Minuteman)

An Arizona civilian border patrol group has released financial records to answer questions about how the nonprofit spends contributions, but some former Texas members said they still aren't sure where the money goes.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps collected more than $54,000 in registration fees for background checks but spent only about $1,000 for that purpose last year, according to an IRS form and audit report released by group leader Chris Simcox.

The group raised more than $418,000, mostly through contributions, and spent nearly $450,000, including about $280,000 for "program services" and $145,000 on fundraising.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps patrols the border and reports illegal immigrants to authorities. It is different from the Minuteman Project, which also focuses on illegal immigration.

Simcox defended the spending on the group's Web site, saying that its financial state was "much better than most first-year startup national organizations." He criticized the media for "egregiously false" reporting.

But questions about finances and other concerns have led some members to quit the group. Among those was Bill Parmley, the former head of the group's Texas chapter, who left in July 2005.

"There were just too many irregularities," Parmley said. "I just didn't want to be involved in something like that."

Kim Fromme, former director of operations for the group's Texas chapter, quit in February over concerns about where the money was going.

"It didn't go down to the border, that's for sure," Fromme said.

Well we dont mind auditing the Minutemen ,they are a group mostly made up of whites. Now lets see the IRS audit of the Rainbow Coalition and how much they paid out for Jesse's illigitimate child. Lets see the audit for Al Sharpton's church. Al claims he doesnt own the shirt on his back, Lets see the figures.

While we are at it lets see the CAIR audit and the one for the ACLU . How is it right to audit the Minutemen and not these others? Lets see Bubba Clintons tax report.

Total income was $418,493.00. $112,500.00 of income was in unrestricted grants from Declaration Alliance.
Total Expenditures were $449,667.00
Program Services were $280,920.00 which was 62.47% of our total expenditures.
Management and General Expenses were $23,348.00 which was 5.19% of our total expenditures.
Fundraising Expenses were $145,399.00 which was 32.34% of our total expenditures.

Now if the details were published of the $280,920 expenditures in Program Services and the details of the $145,399 expenditures in Fundraising then there would be a better handle on where the money went, what is was for and who were the recipients of the outlay........

Form 990-2005

Go for it.

All should be audited. I'd gaurantee that something would be found on a few of them.

But not ONE of those organizations will be REMOTELY tied to conservatism or the right wing train of thought.

The Minutemen can and WILL BE. Therefore it's absolutely crucial their books be above board and absolutely clean.

This crisis and financial exercise is good for the MM. Reason - they are taking on some very powerful economic and political interest groups. They will not hesitate to use any means necessary to undermind the MM. Having your crap and books in order are necessary for the MM to survive and fight every day.

In the abstract, I would agree.

The problem is, there is a ton of smoke there, especially when you try to reconcile what they claim to bring in and what they report.

I would like them to explain that.

Can non-profits report a "loss"? Where did the extra $32,000 in spending come from?

Also I'm kinda of surprised with the all the free publicity the Minutemen got, >$500,000 is a paltry sum.

Looks like not that many people donated to the "cause" that was supposed to sweep America and "true conservatives" into power for years to come.

Hopefully, that went to some "good" cause like paying legal fees. The best things in life are fees.

Well said. The forces against them are very powerful, and they are already hard at work undermining the MM. There are many, even here on FR, that have been taken in by the MSM propaganda.

Screw You and the horse you rode in on.

By Chris Simcox:

Well Seper has done it again. This guy is obtuse and can't be this downright dumb which is why I feel he purposefully misstates and, misquotes me and others.
First let's tackle the stupid headline-Seper can't be that stupid can he? We have not outstripped our donations -the audit is through December 31, 2005, at that time we owed $31,000 in bills, starting Jan 1,2006 new donations were added for the new year and continue until Dec 31, 2006 then we start the cycle over again. One of the great things, benefits we have with our relationship with Deiner is they believe in the cause and delay their billing trusting that donations will be generated to cover the expenses. Thus at the end of the first year, 2005, we owed $31,000 that was paid in 2006 which has been a much better year for donations which allowed us to spend much more on border operations and field equipment.
It is a non-profit's duty to spend donations on program services, not to make money or build a big bank account -the goal is to break even each year.

Quote:
While the IRS papers document MCDC collections and expenditures through Dec. 31, a reported donation total of $418,493 is significantly less than the $1.6 million MCDC President Chris Simcox told The Washington Times in July that the group had collected in donations since its April 2005 creation. That figure was said to include $1 million in direct MCDC contributions and $600,000 toward the construction of a $55 million border fence.

Again what an idiot Seper is he purposefully creates confusion. The audit and 990 is for 2005, add that with the estimated $650K (remember I said estimated, that can't be certified until we complete audit and 990 for 2006) we brought in for 2006 that brings us to just over $1 million total.
The fence project is a completely different corporation, with separate bank account, separate fund raising etc. All monies donated to the fence go towards the construction of the fence, there can be no cross over of funds.

Sinister Seper distorts/confuses facts on purpose -is he stupid or is he doing it on purpose- out to bring us down -don't underestimate the Bush family connection.

We are not in the red, the auditor gave us a sterling report with no recommendations or negatives -like I told you from day one, we run the corporation with the highest amount of integrity and oversight -I'm not stupid enough to have allowed amateurs to run the business side as many of the people quoted in the first Seper hit-piece article during the summer wanted to do. That is why they did not stay with the corporation, they felt we could run this with all volunteers, I knew better when it comes to the business and fund raising side of the operation, we were fortunate to have Declaration Alliance, Alan Keyes believe in our mission and put his name on it, becoming a partner until we can stand on our own two legs -we are almost there in less than 2 years -our success is phenomenal and will continue to be just that thanks to the efforts of the volunteers and in trusting Carmen and I to hire the best consultants we could find who believe in the cause and get the most out of every dollar spent.
Our 2006 audit and 990 will filed on time as will the fence project finances be opened to the public as law requires.
Any other questions?
