The Prime Minister's wife took her revenge on a profession that has bedevilled her for years when invited to address students at Roehampton University on Wednesday. She told a stunned audience that it was "not a noble calling" and journalists "have no ethics". Cherie Blair has launched an extraordinary ...

Mrs Blair - at the university in south-west London to open its Human Rights Centre - focused attention towards the Daily Mail and the Press Complaints Commission.

Mrs Blair had been invited to join the university chancellor, John Simpson, as the BBC's world affairs editor addressed a small group of journalism students...she was in a room with at least three, reputedly ethical, journalists said one student who was taken back by Blair's comments.

At least three, reputedly ethical journalists?

How long did it take to find them? Where did they get them from?

No, I don't believe there are that many. This story is obviously a fantasy.

... and what the journalists say about her...

"The Wicked Witch is utterly shameless"

Richard Littlejohn

"Won't we miss that nest of hair ... that letterbox mouth"

Liz Jones

"Scouser Cherie was on the grab, digging hot little fists into jars of free sweets"

Quentin Letts

*************
Truth hurts, I guess.

Cherie Blair is a Marxist, Jew-hating, terrorist loving POS.

Her accusing someone of lacking morality is as crazy as Ahmedinejad accusing someone of anti-Semitism.

Yeah. Only a crazy person would tell the unabashed truth about the media.

Judging by the three catty comments by supposed journalists to the right of the article, I'd say she was right. It's disgusting that they would stoop so low. I, for one, defend her right to freedom of speech. Stand by your words, Cherie!

Look at #3, read #5. For these, and more, I stand by my comment. However, you are free to misinterpret.

Cherie Blair is a Marxist, Jew-hating, terrorist loving POS.

And a lawyer too, isn't she?

Talk about the full package of bad characteristics.

So, you think journalists are ethical?

"thinking" would preclude that misinterpretation of the facts.

The lead on this story claimed journalists have no "morality," but the quote stated that journalists have no "ethics." Well, which is it? Morality or Ethics?

"...she was in a room with at least three, reputedly ethical, journalists."

Of course, two of them were the writers of this article for The Independent.

Today most "journalists" are nothing than whores, pimping their "version" of the truth.

A SNIP

RE: "pro life practicing Catholic"

"Cherie also revealed that, despite being a practising Catholic, she was at odds with the Catholic church’s stance on birth control. In response to the question: “For the sake of the fight against world poverty, should the church change its teaching on birth control,” the premier’s wife answered with an unequivocal, “Yes”."

"Saying her beliefs rested on “faith, hope and love” she added: “As a Catholic I am proud of the social mission of the church and its concerns for the poor and dispossessed, but I still personally would support women priests.”

This is an "ethic" I was taught in journalism school. The question was posed to the class -- A photographer for your paper happens to see and photograph a man commiting suicide by jumping from a highrise; the photo is very dramatic, so the editor is in the process of including it in the next day's paper when it's discovered that the man in the photo was an employee for the paper. The burning ethical question: Should the paper run the photo?

My answer: No, it shouldn't be run no matter who the guy was. Either way, it would be voyeurism, not news.

The correct answer: Yes, the editor should run it regardless -- the fact that the poor man worked for the paper should't prejudice the editor against the "story."

I think I have to agree with Cherie on this one.

There's a small corner of British conservatism which is still deeply uncomfortable with the notion of a woman who can at the same time pursue a successful and independent professional career, successfully raise a family, and maintain a marriage to a successful professional man. For some corners of the media (notably the Daily Mail) Cherie Blair embodies that discomfort, and she has been demonised in consequence - for what she represents, not for what she is. However disagreeable her opinions, the 'wicked witch' stuff, and the portrayal of Cheire as some kind of British Hillary, is preposterous.
