Rangel: Men Join The Army Only If They Can’t Have A “Decent Career”
Stop The ACLU ^ | 26-Nov-06 | John Stephenson

Hot Air has the video:

I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

As soon as the Democrats take control they allow people like Rangel to be their mouthpieces and just as quickly find a foot in that mouth. This quote is Rangel's explanation of why he supports the draft. One would think after the Kerry episode these idiots would be more careful in how the word things. I don't know how anyone could interpret Rangel's statement as anything other than a direct insult to those serving in our military. Apparently, Rangel does not believe being in the army is a decent career. Many people in the military do make the choice to join because of a conviction to a patriotic duty. Those are the kind of people I want in our military. If we were to follow Rangel's advice of a draft our military would be full of people that do not want to be there.

Earth to Charlie: Boys only join Congress if they can't have a decent career.

BINGO!!!! One would be hard pressed to find a greater collection of mediocrity than the US Congress. The vast majority are of average intelligence at best. Most people of accomplishment stay in the private sector as politics in this country drives away the best and the brightest. In my view these fools are one half notch above actors in intelligence.

Well I think America will eventually realize this...

Lets see 50,000 dead in the dirty bomb or nuke or bio or chem attack by (pick your terror group)

I guess 3,000 dead Americans on 911 just wasnt' enough to overcome the quesy liberal stomach.

Just what is this Rangel character smoking, because that what it takes to pick up and adopt the John Kerry manual.

I would say that for many if not a majority of the most accomplished individuals with the greatest careers, you will find military service in their background. And that goes for whether they later become writers actors leaders executives politicians, or all of the above.

One of the first that comes to my mind is the ceo of FedEx.

**I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it.**

What if THEY said it? I'm sure it would be utterly surprising to Rangel but Mike joined because he WANTED to. Not because of bonuses, not because he couldn't do anything else, and not because he was poor. He was a young, bright guy. And the Democrats need to stop insulting him.

Guess that is why he is a congressman. He could not find a decent career. The man is a joke and a disgrace to this nation.

I guess he doesn't think that Colin Powell had a decent career. Does Rangel really understand just how STOOPID he sounds?

Rangel keeps spewing his hateful lies. My #2 son signed up for USMC reserves just after his 17th birthday and prior to his senior year in high school. He graduated with a 4.33 GPA and all "5" scores on his AP exams. He had enough credits to be a college sophomore when he graduated from high school. A month after graduation, he headed off to boot camp. His boot camp graduation happened shortly after 9-11-2001. After serving in Kuwait/Iraq, he returned, completed a BS in Business Administration and is currently a licensed real estate broker employing 26 other people. Not anything like Rangel's lying description.

I'm not in the military, but I am a DoD contractor. I accept tasks critical to national security. Some of the work puts me in places that are "unsafe". I could make the same money pushing a pencil in a totally "safe" office job, but I prefer to make a contribution where it is needed. I accept the risk as a necessary element of achieving the objectives.

I enlisted in 1981. Partly for a job, and partly because military service is a family tradition going back at least to the Civil War. I will admit that mostly it was for the job and education, as unemployment in Lane County, Oregon, was over 20% at the time.

The majority of the people in my semi-chosen career field were there for education and experience. I knew few people who enlisted from desperation.

I do know one person now who enlisted in the Army because the Judge gave him the choice of the Army or jail.

He was a kid who made a poor choice, but was otherwise clean. Today that kid, because of the chance he received in the Army, is the Eastern Region IT Security Manager for a major corporation.

While he is still angry at the choice the judge gave him, even he admits that without the army he would be stuck in nothing jobs today.

Rangel has no plan for victory, he only wants America to be defeated.

What a POS!

Best observation that I have seen posted so far re: Mr Charlie Rangel. Only problem is that a whole lot of idiots have placed this POS in a leadership position. And now we have to deal with it.......

Wrong. Men get elected to CONGRESS only if they can't figure out how to have a decent career.

Just a little experiment for you. Next time you are out for a drive take note of the vehicles with the bumper stickers supporting a dem politician. I'm willing to bet that those cars will not have a yellow ribbon, an American flag, or any other patriotic bumper stickers. I do question the patriotism of those that vote dem, because from what I've seen they seem to loathe their own country.
