It was the first super predator of the ancient seas and its fearsome, jagged jaws still inspire awe 400 million years later.

Now that is a fish story!
Well, I'll have to pass this on to my kids. At least two of them had declared the dunkleostus to be their favorite extinct animal when they were younger. (I think it has something to do with the name as well as the fearsome jaws.)
How did I know that picture was coming?
Awww man... I was eating lunch... jeeze

IM A DORKFISH, he caught me on a corndog. I was swimming underneath the ocean and I was like, whats a corndog doing underneath the ocean!!? But you know me boy, I love them dang corndogs! Whhooaahh..I saw that bad boy, I bit it, and BOOM, I was in that boat, thats the last thing I know.
Yo Man, We be talking about PREHISTORIC Extinct fish on this here thread.
That there is the creature from the black lagoon that you be posting a picture of.
Yes, but it's been here forever.

Could be brothers?
We're going to need a bigger boat.
Quint: Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish.
Quint: Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him.
Quint: I value my life a whole lot more than $3,000 chief. I'll find him for three but I'll catch him and kill him for ten. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.
Any bets on the first poster to say this fish isn't 400,000,000 years old because the planet is only 6,000 years along?

Well, its cuter than Helen
Any bets on the first poster to insult a large number of Christians and bait "young earth creationists" into jumping into this thread?
Why do this?
Heh heh heh......Watch out, if this fish lived anywhere near Mexico, Dane will show up.
FMCDH(BITS)
Does this mean that scientists can now quit looking back, since they have now discovered "the first"?
I bet $.50 on........sawoody.
Well, there is in before the zot, I wanted to get in before the hijack. That's all.
It also offends me that you equate christians with science denial. The vast majority of christians accept science.
Ping
I would like to beg you, in the name of all humanity, to stop posting that picture.
Any bets on the first poster to insult a large number of Christians and bait "young earth creationists" into jumping into this thread? Why do this?
I understand how it baits young Earth creationists, but how does it insult a large number of Christians?
I am tired of clicking on what could be an interesting thread and finding you baiting each other.
A plague on both your houses.
[singing] If you knew sushi, like we know sushi...
I hated her in "Return of the Jedi".
You owe dogbyte a coke. I'm a Christian, Scientist, avid Bible student, that believes in a VERY old universe and earth. I just thought the comment was an unwarranted jab, that would invite a highjacking.
(Which, unfortunately, my ill-considered reply and continued discussion will accomplish. My apologies to all).
I just saw the comment and thought it was inviting the very highjacking you dreaded.
It also offends me that you equate christians with science denial. The vast majority of christians accept science.
I don't equate the two. No offense meant. I'm a member of the vast majority of Christians who accept science. But the fact is, all young earth creationists are Christians and your comment came across as a slap to them, daring them to defend their viewpoint.
Sorry, if I jumped to conclusions. I really shouldn't have hit the "post" button. I have inadvertently caused a highjacking by discussing it any more at all. My apologies.
A large number of Christians are young earth creationists. (c: The comment was a direct insult to their beliefs, daring them to jump in and defend.
I bought some sushi once. Took it home, cooked it up, it tasted exactly like fish! [partial rimshot!, stolen joke]
:oP
A large number of Christians are young earth creationists. (c: The comment was a direct insult to their beliefs, daring them to jump in and defend.
So it's also baiting Christians and insulting young Earth creationists? I don't see how it could be bait one group and not the other, nor insult one group and not the other. I guess I just don't see how questioning a person's beliefs is an insult. People often enough question one another's beliefs and I don't see them as insulting each other.
Actually, it seems that to not question others' beliefs would increase ignorance. If a persons believes something that is in fact an error the sooner they find out it's an error the sooner they can benefit from correcting the error. Likewise, when a belief is correct taking on challenges to it strengthens the belief and makes it easier to take on future challenges.
Thanks, Harmless Teddy Bear.

I saw that specimen in an Abbott and Costello movie ("Abbott and Costello Join the Foreign Legion" to be more exact)
I owe you $.50. I was going to bet one dollar for every year the fish had assumed room temperature, when I suddenly realized my last name isn't Gates, so you get a Coke instead :)
Seeing as how a large number (not all, by any means) of Christians are young earth creationists, and all young earth creationists are Christians, Yes, the comment could bait or insult some and/or all of both groups. (c: This seems kind of picky to me. Please take my original comment at face value.
I don't see how it could be bait one group and not the other, nor insult one group and not the other.
Do you believe that all Christians are young earth creationists? I'm a Christian, but not a young earth creationist. I was not insulted by the comment. I was just pointing out that it was not very helpful.
I guess I just don't see how questioning a person's beliefs is an insult. People often enough question one another's beliefs and I don't see them as insulting each other.
You honestly think that comment was just questioning someones belief? I don't. It was a derogatory jab at young earth creationists, that was inviting the very response he said he did not want. It was dripping with, "I think their idea is ridiculous, I sure hope they don't show up here to discuss it". The purpose of my initial post was to point out the irony of that comment. Nothing more.

I wholeheartedly agree. I don't think I ever said or implied that people shouldn't question their beliefs. I've been damned by a few fellow Christians and labeled ignorant and unintelligent by a few of my fellow scientists. I've examined my beliefs plenty (and will continue to do so).
