Posted on 11/29/2006 7:20:27 PM PST by TheMole
Firemen and police usually stand united as fellow civil servants. Not in Paris, where a stand-off between thousands of fire fighters and their police counterparts resulted in injury, property damage and chaos in the French capital.
A demonstration of firefighters in Paris turned violent on Tuesday. And vulgar. Police say fifteen officers were wounded and two are in serious condition after protesters hurled flares, street signs and other heavy objects at them. A police vehicle, another car and several trash cans were also set ablaze. Thirty-five firemen have been taken into custody.

Your pic from the article looks like a white flag of surr(end)er to me. Butt I could be wrong.
Too much information. :)
One should have seen the Fireman's Strike in Memphis, Tennessee, back during the summer of 1978. I was in the NG and the locals just about burned the downtown area with some of the environs burned also. Police stood back and let the diverse individuals run amok. Not a pretty site nor a pretty time.
NBC says this is NOT a civil war.
Anarchy à la française
In France, I'm sure these hooligan firefighters have no chance of being fired.
Hmm...yes, I'm certain the gendarmerie will, er, get to the bottom of this...
And many of our DemoRat Socialists think that France is a model for the "future" United States....God help us, and voters wake up!!!
BTW, just what is it that Muslims have against cars anyway???
According to official estimates, roughly 6,000 professional fire fighters took to the streets as part of a protest to demand better wages, a premium for dangerous missions and a "decent pension" at age 55. The labor unions that organized the demonstration.... etc.
"'I knew it was the last seven limoncellos that was going to get them."
I had very minor issues with my first French teacher. Playful arguments.
Knowing what I do today, I would love to go back and fan those flames...
"Will NBC announce tomorrow that there is now a state of civil war existing in France?"
Probably not, although we all know there IS a state of Civil War existing in Washington, D.C., Detroit and other major cities mis-managed by the Libs.
According to official estimates, roughly 6,000 professional fire fighters took to the streets as part of a protest to demand better wages, a premium for dangerous missions and a "decent pension" at age 55. The labor unions that organized the demonstration claim the number of protesters was closer to 10,000....
...Several dozen fire fighters attacked security forces with flares, bottles, stones and anything else they could find, including street signs and traffic cones....
One gendarme suffered a head injury from one of the projectiles, while another had his leg broken after being hit in the knee by a sledgehammer...
Horrors, vulgar in Paris.
Have the Muslims take a page out of Bush's WOT handbook, turn the French against each other?
What I was trying to say is that it wouldn't be easy for the central government of France to suppress the Muslims if they tried. The forces of order don't always follow orders, as you can see from this news item. Also, if you're familiar with France you know that any real crackdown attempt on the yoots would bring the left out into the streets in protest. Chirac, De Villepin and Sarkozy would then be fighting a two-front war. That's probably their biggest nightmare right now.
More like the white flab of surrender.
LOL! Hey, it's better than having them play with their hoses in public.
