The Gentleman From Virginia
The American Spectator ^ | 11/30/2006 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.

Posted on 11/30/2006 8:39:48 AM PST by AnnGora

WASHINGTON -- When Ronald Reagan's former secretary of the navy, James Webb, eked out victory against the Republican Senator George Allen in Virginia, what did the Democrats gain? To be sure they gained control of the Senate. That has been widely noted. Less widely noted is the fact that they gained something infinitely more subtle, but delightfully more amusing as will become apparent in the months ahead. In Webb they gained yet another very unpleasant person as a conspicuous member of the party hierarchy. He will not be easily obscured. Webb now takes his place with Hillary Rodham Clinton, Dr. Howard Dean, Al Gore, Jean-Francois Kerry, and so many other Democratic notables as a rebarbative blowhard with whom you would not want to share a gondola.

"All of the above are demonstrably unpleasant individuals, known for their public temper tantrums, their rudeness to staff, their slipperiness with the truth, and their occasional bizarre outbursts. The Republicans have a few such stinkers, for instance Newt Gingrich, but not nearly as many"

Newt Gingrich on the same playing field as Howard Dean and Al Gore? I'm really surprised at him being labeled a stinker. I certainly don't think that Newt is the end-all, be-all, but come on.

You know... politics... if you make the most of it, you work hard, you use some common sense, and you make an effort to be patriotic, you can do well. If you don't... you get stuck as the ski-bum-boy-toy of a gin-soaked ketchup dowager.

I used to get mad at the democrats for being so nasty but I have come to the conclusion that being nasty is in their genetic make up so maybe they just can't help but being what they are, just nasty little people.

My question exactly. These are they people put into office by voting Americans. Simply amazing.

They won't... the view from inside their rectum is very limited.

The exchange of words at the White House may endear him to the Angry Left, but publicizing it may have already sealed his reelection fate.

IMO, Virginians prefer civility. Politicians of both parties in this state tend to avoid making fools of themselves.

I wonder what has transpired between Tyrrell and Newt for him to put Newt in such company.

Oh, if only this would fit in a tagline, I'd ask to borrow it!

"At what point in time will the Sheeple even notice?"

From what I've seen, the Bush haters are a low and vile mob. They want their heroes to be nasty - even vicious.

I'v come to the conclusion that Democrats attract the most flawed among us.
They welcome outlandish behavior, do not set boundaries on ethics and morals and always excuse violations of most standards.
They make society's outcasts feel welcome and comfortable.

Webb was just "earning his bones", to borrow a phrase from the Great Dissembler.

Webb--He doesn't know to act right. Nothing of substance will be of service to Virginia.

In Webb they gained yet another very unpleasant person as a conspicuous member of the party hierarchy.

With Snake Leahy, dumber-than-a-box-of-rocks Patricia Bin Murray, dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks Barbara Boxer, Mime Soros-puppett Casey, drunk frat boy Teddy, Smarmy Schumer and all but a handful of other assorted rogues, who's even going to notice? Yeah, possibly the sheeple of Virginia-- in 6 more years.

But for now, it's like adding another turd to a septic tank.

It seems Mr. Tyrrell has first hand knowledge of Webb's low class or no class demeanor, probably the latter. It may turn out to be a long six years for James before he retires.

I was listening to Mark "The Great One" Levin last night. A man called and said when Webb was SECNAV, he was very rude to him. Mark questioned the man further and it was revealed the mans father ran a limo service and he was one of the drivers. During some function where he had to pick up Webb, he said Webb was very rude to him. Again, it was noted by both Mark and the caller that you can tell how a person is by how they treat the hired help. Webb is an arse!

Commenting further on Bob's article, I knew a man several years ago who was part of AF security on AF1 during the Carter-Reagan administrations. His tales supports what Bob says about the Dems - nearly every Dem he had contact with - including Carter - were rude boors. The Reagans and the Bushes were gracious, polite individuals.

Excellent!

According to the Hill, Webb even told a source for the paper that "he was so angered by this [encounter] that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief."

I almost wish he had. I suspect he would have never been sworn in at all.
