Man charged in driving deaths apparently in U.S.illegally with N.C.license-Marine back from Iraq

A man charged with manslaughter in the drunken-driving deaths of two people was apparently in the U.S. illegally and had obtained a driver's license in North Carolina, according to immigration officials.

Eduardo Raul Morales-Soriano, 25, of Laurel, has been charged with two counts of homicide by motor vehicle in the deaths of Marine Cpl. Brian Mathews, 21, of Columbia, and Jennifer Bower, 24, of Montgomery Village.

Mathews and Bower, who were on their second date, were killed on Thanksgiving when Morales-Soriano allegedly slammed into the back of their car. Mathews had recently finished eight months of duty in Iraq and planned to leave the military in June.

Morales-Soriano, who police said had a blood-alcohol level four times the legal limit for driving, was not injured in the crash. He was being held in the Howard County Detention Center on $830,000 bail.

There was no record of Morales-Soriano, a Mexican citizen who worked as a landscaper, entering the U.S. legally, said James Dinkins, acting special agent in charge of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office in Baltimore.

Not illegal, undocumented... oops, he was documented!

Morales-Soriano used his North Carolina driver's license issued Feb. 5, 2004, to obtain a license in Maryland on July 8, 2005, according to Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, The (Baltimore) Sun reported.

In February, Morales-Soriano refused a Breathalyzer test at the scene of a non-injury accident but his license was never suspended, police said.

Smelling of alcohol and failing to keep his balance, Morales-Soriano refused the test and was given four citations before being released, said Wayne Kirwan, a spokesman for Howard County State's Attorney Office.

The police officer mistakenly gave Morales-Soriano a form that was should have been sent to the motor vehicle office. Officials couldn't suspend his license as required by law when a driver refuses a Breathalyzer.

Prosecutors later dropped the charges against Morales-Soriano, noting weak evidence.

Heartbreaking story.......I weep for illegal aliens everyday...especially for the unlicensed uninsured drunken/drugged up illegal aliens who kill my bretheren, the rapists and murdering illegal aliens who came here to the US to ply their trades because in Mexico they would be imprisoned or executed for their actions. I weep for all illegal aliens who take advantage of our generosity and then stick it in our backs, while our generous government turns a blind eye towards them, except to give the illegal aliens more than I could ever hope for.

I weep.

Felice Navidad to all the illegal aliens.

I read about this in the Washington Post while on a train home yesterday and it made me cry. This beautiful young man was an Eagle Scout and a devout Catholic whose entire parish was praying for him every day while he was in Iraq. Then he comes home for Thanksgiving and goes out with his girlfriend and gets killed by a drunk. Just terrible.

Enforcement of immigration laws is a federal responsibility, not the state of Maryland's. And that responsibility rests with the Executive Branch.

So yes, it is Bush's fault.

Tucson Citizen

I just returned from a week in Washington, D.C., with a group of concerned women where we learned about the Security and Prosperity Partnership, also known as "The North American Union."
This partnership was agreed upon at a private meeting held in Waco, Texas, on March 23, 2005, among then-president of Mexico Vicente Fox, U.S. President George Bush and then-Prime Minister Paul Martin of Canada. The SPP is an agreement to merge our United States of America with Mexico and Canada.".............

I moved to Georgia from Oklahoma. In addition to my Oklahoma drivers license, the Georgia Drivers License folks insisted on having a certified copy of my birth certificate. (There were other criteria which could be used, but all were dedicated to the proposition that you were in the state legally.)

I wasn't offended - in fact, thought it was an excellent idea.

Marine mourned after drunken driving crashLuke Broadwater, The Examiner

Nov 29, 2006 3:00 AM (1 day ago)

Columbia - Marine Cpl. Brian Mathews was patrolling downtown Ramadi, Iraq, on Nov. 11, 2005, when his unit fell victim to an insurgent sniper ambush.

But Mathews, 21, of Columbia, never flinched.

“He was beside me the whole time,” said Cpl. Daniel Robinson, 22, of Texas, Mathews’ squad leader. “He was giving his team commands. He was a perfectionist Marine, and it really showed. We didn’t have one casualty or one killed in action in the ambush.”

Now Mathews’ fellow Marines are mourning his death after police say a drunken driver killed the 21-year-old on Thanksgiving night while he was home visiting his family in Columbia.

Reached at Camp Pendleton in California, Cpl. Garrett Farris, 21, of Texas, said the Marines who served with Mathews are distraught over his death.

“It’s more anger than anything,” he said. “A guy goes to war and has no problems with that. He comes back to the States, and it’s supposed to be our safe place.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Lance Cpl. Jae Lee, 21, of Orange County, Calif., who served with Mathews in Ramadi.

“He was a really good friend,” Lee said. “I was shocked at first when I heard what happened. He went through seven months in Iraq, and to get hit by a drunken driver is unfair.”

Mathews and Jennifer Bower, 24, of Montgomery Village, were killed after a crash at 10:20 p.m. on Route 175 in Columbia, when police say a 25-year-old man who was drinking and driving slammed into their car.

Police have charged Eduardo Raul Morales Soriano, 25, of Laurel, with homicide by motor vehicle, manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving while under the influence of alcohol. Soriano was not injured, police said.

Mathews’ fellow Marines remember him as a solid, responsible Marine. They say his death is a huge loss to the force.

I like my amnesty plan!
Please call them INVADERS and don't compare them to people who are legal aliens!
IF you aid and abet CRIMINALS, you are a criminal!

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which is larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!

Start building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.
