Good Movie but in the beginning they misquote the Bible. Obviously they did not consult the right people.
The verse they quoted really dealt with the second advent not the first. But I thought them movie was good, but Biblically in-accurate.
To: ColdSteelTalon
What bible quote? or the second advent of what?

I just got back from the movie and I pretty much completely disagree with you.
While the story of the Nativity will never match the drama of the Passion, The Nativity Story was excellent -- well-made, faithful, and absolutely lovely.

It would be interesting to see what the Catholic Church says about the movie The Mission.
Found this on Google:
http://www.ourcatholicfaith.org/moviereviews.html It's the Vatican Top 45 movie list, published by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. I don't know anything about the USCCB but it appears to be an offical body of the Catholic church. The list does include The Mission.
To: Yardstick
That's encouraging. Maybe its their effort to repent for some mistakes they've made.

Try Roberto Rossellini's 1950 film "The Flowers of St. Francis ( about St. Francis of Assisi)
and more currently, probably the ONLY American film in decades to seriously deal with religion and faith, Robert Duvall's
THE APOSTLE. The Apostle kept reaching towards greatness, and pulling back a little, but overall, it came across as something very close to an exploration of how faith is found, lost, tested, and rediscovered, and possibly could even be seen as a symbolic study in how religions are founded.

Anything'll be better than the idiotic Happy Feet that I had to sit throughI saw that piece of propaganda disguised as a kid's cartoon yesterday. They might as well have called it "An Inconvenient Truth - Children's Edition."

I LOVED the Passion of the Christ and think this movie is mediocre at best.
The Passion was a very "Catholic" film this is a Christian film in my opinion.
To us Catholics, the Annunciation is a Feast Day. In the movie it is portrayed by some rustling leaves in the wind and the angel Gabriel coming and reciting words. Mediocre.
Mary didn't really smile until the baby Jesus was born.
Mary was not happy that she had to marry Joseph. Her "rebellion" was shown by her "running away" to help Elizabeth. This was portrayed by her telling her father she was leaving, basically, whether he liked it or not.
Elizabeth and Mary have rather graphic birthing scenes. Unnecessary for children to view.
This will most assuredly not become a classic.
Too bad Gibson did not do this movie.

While filming The Passion, Holy Mass was said every day on the set.
I read a headline a few days ago which went something like:
Life Imitates Art, Actress who Played Mary in Film is an Unwed Mother.
Oh brother!! Eyes rolling!!!

She mentions in a website interview that she felt she was 'called' to make this film. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
The cynical me thinks that line is only for hype and sales.

I skimmed the review, and it was generally very positive, calling it the first "blatantly Christian" movie since ---"the bathrobe epics of the 1960s." Really? The Passion of the Christ was not a "blatantly Christian" movie?

There was such a sticnk that they changed their approval.

You mean this USCCB group endorsed Brokeback Mountain?
By the way, is the USCCB a recognized body of the Catholic Church? Do they speak for the Catholic Church?
If so, it's incredible to think they'd give a thumbs up to Brokeback.
...I just googled it, though, and you're right, it's true:
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=5643
Fairly shocking, in my opinion.
To: Yardstick
Are they a recognized body of the Catholic Church??? Yes is stands for United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
