Key lawmaker calls spy program illegal. Harman is now criticizing Bush's policies
SFC ^ | Dec. 2, 2006 | Jim Doyle

Rep. Jane Harman, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, told a gathering of the American Bar Association on Friday that the Bush administration's secret wiretapping program for suspected terrorists is illegal.

Harman, D-Venice (Los Angeles County), who has become increasingly critical of President Bush's policies in recent months after her initial support for the Iraq war and her defense of the Patriot Act, also blasted the administration for refusing to provide legal opinions and authorizations for its wiretap program, interrogations policy and detentions of accused terrorists.

"The administration has too often operated under vague legal guidelines, pursuant to secret legal opinions generated by few and vetted by almost none," she said Friday.

I guess all Dems are now running left to please Pelosi.

What are they going to do, if it turns out we'll have a terrorist attack which could have been prevented by wiretapping the terrorists?

WIRETAP

I wish these Democrats were half as concerned about the survival of America as they are about the rights of terrorists out to destroy the US, Israel, and the civilized world. I wish these Democrats hated our enemies half as much as they hate our twice-elected President.

They had better pray that no such thing occurs. If it does even the "media" will have a hard time hiding it for the public.

They'll still blame it on Bush, the MSM will run with it, and the public will accept their verdict because nobody on our side will argue otherwise.

In other words, business as usual.

Maybe we should hedge our bets and stock up on ammo. (I mean even more ammo).

I could have sworn that Jane was in favor of this program...since she was one of the ones that knew from DAY ONE about this program...and I thought she even said she didn't see any problems with it....

I am sure all of what she has said in the past will come out...right??

Heck no...the MSM won't care.

Last summer, a lawyer I know who is a Democrat told me he thought Bush was using the NSA surveillance program to eavesdrop on political opponents. That's how paranoid and delusional these people are.

Did you see the thread about the book that is coming out telling how the MEDIA has been responsible for messing with Pres. Bush's message about the war on terror>??

The White House has all kinds of reasons to take the gloves off...I just guess they feel they need to concentrate on the war...with the terrorists, rather than the MSM and the dems.

However...once January comes...the dems aren't going to LET them concentrate on the war...they will be too busy defending themselves in hearing after hearing.

and I thought she even said she didn't see any problems with it....

You're correct...I heard her on TV (I believe with Brit Hume) months ago say she thought the program was legal. She said that the people complaining then hadn't seen the details because they were classified.

The Democrats provide cover for the terrorists the same way they did for the Soviet Union, especially with their sophistries and meaningless moral equivalence arguments. Strangely enough, they're ashamed of the US, but willing to suck up to the most reactionary and totalitarian regimes and movements. They're the smart party, you know.

Jane Harman had a reputation for decency and patriotism, but it looks as if the Democrats have told her to shape up or ship out.

First her aide leaked a classified document to the media right before the election, and now this.

The crazy fringe won't let the decent Democrats be decent any longer. Well, frankly she has lost any respect I might have had for her. The welfare of our country is more important than a political career.

Harman is now the worst kind of Demagogue weasel, because she KNOWS better (many of them do not, they're just rabid brain-addled leftists). She has had YEARS to voice any objections to this and other counter-terrorism programs, but before now she mostly understood the security requirements of the USA. Now she is pandering to the demented left and she deserves only contempt and scorn.

I'm tired of playing games with these bleepholes

Let her and the rest of the Dems ban the wiretapping of terrorists ..

While they are at it .. let them release all the terrorists from Gitmo too

And they can take FULL responsibility when more Americans are killed

Because it will happen if the Democrats tie the hands of the intelligence agencies

They have all the answers ?..

They claim to have a plan ?

BRING IT ON and stop playing games ..

Come right out and just do it and stop with the threats

Clinton-Gore Busted On Wiretaps

http://strata-sphere.com/blog/index.php/archives/1221

Thanks for looking for it and posting it.

There is this "unwritten law" -- Democrats can use wiretaps, FBI files without warrants, as they see fit, but Republicans can't use them, even if it's the question of discovering and foiling a terrorist attack on the US. It's in the Constitution (/sarcasm)

The thing that makes Bush look bad...is that even prior to 9-11...his FBI and Attorney General folks...had sufficent powers to tap everyone's lines...but you had to appear in front of a judge and request such. The Bush administration has simply wanted to avoid any judge approving the "taps"...saying only that the president has the power to do so. All of this hocus-pocus games with the administration and the congressional "toss-another-law-onto-the-fire" efforts...are unnecessary, and have been so for several years. If people simply read the laws prior 9-11...its a very simple system. And it works. Even if Bush felt that the judges weren't acting fast enough...congress would have been willing to appoint a row of special judges to speed up the process...but no Bush appointee ever said that speed of approval was a problem...or if so...they haven't said so in the press.
