SUVA (Reuters) - Fiji's military is likely to force the embattled government of Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase to step aside on Monday, military chief Commander Frank Bainimarama said.

"Transition is expected to take place tomorrow as a deadline," Bainimarama told Fijian-language television on Sunday.
Lest anybody think that the NYT has a bad rep.
LOL.
Hey Hal hear of this
Maybe they run coup de etoi differently over there in Fiji province, than here in the States. I'm guessing that with all the car bombs lately, enough has been enough.
The report is a little murky though, in that Al Sadr isn't quoted, nor is it clear if its the Sunnis or the Shia that are revolting.
Perhaps this "revolt" is that "civil war" we've been all been hearing 'bout in the offing.
Hunh? Fiji is a Pacific island country that has contributed a lot of troops to UN peace keeping operations, mostly as a money making operation for Fiji.
The violence in Fiji is related to conflicts between the native ethnic group and the descendants of non-Fijian laborers imported during the colonial period.
Fiji is also the nick name of an American college fraternity, but somehow I don't think they're involved.
Bula! Bula!
Fiji is one of the most beautiful (and relaxing!) places on the planet. Let's hope this nonsense in sorted out quickly and without bloodshed. The distrubing thing about these Fiji 'coup's' is that race is always a key element. You got to worry that one day if they don't chill it will end in some kind of horrible drawn out civil war.
Yeah, this Fiji situation has been brewing for a few weeks.
