We have some feral/abandoned cats in the neighborhood, fairly wild but nice. Our neighbor caught several in a humane trap and took them to the SPCA figuring they would do right by them. One was a nursing mother and the kittens were still not caught. Needless to say they were all snuffed within hours to the horror and shock of our neighbor. I caught the kittens and we found homes for them, and then we found out we could catch the remainder, take them to a place for neutering, and bring them back to the area and release them to live as they had before but unable to reproduce. This way, they would die out naturally, rather than at the hands of the SPCA critter snuffers.

SPCA and the old anti-vivisectionist groups are century-old precursors of today's "right to die" movement. Same kind of busybodies, same kind of thinking, same resort to coercive state power to do their will. They started with animals and worked up to euthanizing humans. The eugenics movement came out of the same swamps, but was a lot less squeamish about bumping off such unwelcome neighbors as Jews, the bourgeoisie, intellectuals and cripples.

Your typical SPCA type would be DELIGHTED to kill a nursing mother cat. A practical solution to six or eight other "problems," at one stroke! Michael Schiavo, however, was a cat killer in the Eugenics tradition. He did it just to be mean.

Thanks. I'm sorry that I missed Bobby Schindler. It was a real crowd at the stage. I was a couple hundred yards back.

I heard a bit of Sam Brownback at the main stage a I went by. He had a large presence among the crowds with "Brownback for President" signs and stickers.

It's unfortunate, not altogether surprising and telling that only he and Duncan Hunter found the event worthy of their presence.

Chances are pretty good that Bobby's remarks will get posted on Terri's site, or one like it. If so, we'll pick them up and repost a link here. (We always keep a Terri thread going.)

I thought Mike Pence was there too?

Haleigh Poutre Update

Dare we hope?

BOSTON A new legislative committee charged with investigating ways to improve the protection of children under care of the state holds its first hearing today. The Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect meets at the Statehouse.

The panel is charged with looking at the balance between protecting children and keeping families intact, the failure to report suspected abuse or neglect by some mandated reporters, and the role of the state in end-of-life decisions.

The creation of the committee follows a report released last summer by the legislative panel into the case of Haleigh Poutre.

From WND, the Burglar factor...

On March 18, 2005, Judge George Greer ordered that Terri Schiavo's feeding tube be removed. When Greer did so, he helped set in motion a series of events that he could never have anticipated.

Despite the extraordinary attention, Schiavo's was not the most closely watched death in the early spring of 2005. Half a world away, John Paul II was also dying, he of natural causes.

After 13 agonizing days, Schiavo died on the morning of March 31. On that afternoon, in a dusty pit stop of a Kansas town called Herington, the FBI entered an abandoned home, searched it, then promptly called in the Topeka bomb squad and evacuated the neighborhood. Although these events were not at all related, the timing almost assuredly was.....

It boils down to this, PETA and ewe.

But since autumn, when People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals opened a campaign against his research, he has drawn a torrent of outrage from animal rights activists, gay advocates and others around the world — all of it based, Roselli and colleagues said, on a bizarre misinterpretation of what the work is about.

Like a comic echo of the Terri Schiavo case, the story of the gay sheep became a textbook example of the distortion and vituperation that can result when science meets the global news cycle.

Thanks to TheSarce for pointing out this thread by Brilliant on the New Crist Minstrels. Sure to get some adrenalin going...

The state would pay for stem-cell research, including studies using cells harvested from embryos, under a bill filed Tuesday in the Florida Legislature that might have new hope because of backing from Gov. Charlie Crist.

The proposal has failed before, but its chances may be enhanced this year with the support of Crist...

More on Embryonic Stem Cells: Thanks narses for ping to thread by jude24.

Unlike some "deacons" we know...

A deacon upbraided Rep. Brian Higgins during Sunday morning Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church for voting in favor of embryonic stem cell research, prompting the congressman and his family to walk out during the sermon.

The Rev. Art Smith, pastor of the South Buffalo church, said he felt "horrible" about the Higgins family's departure on "Respect Life Sunday" and offered an apology from the pulpit after the congressman had left.

Ping to Wagglebee thread on happenings in Rome...

VATICAN CITY, January 24, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Cardinal Camillo Ruini, head of the Italian episcopal conference, addressed the issue of homosexual marriage or civil union rights at the opening of the twice-yearly assembly of Italian bishops, saying, "It must be said that (homosexual unions) are at odds with basic anthropological facts, in particular with the nonexistence of the blessing of generating children, which is the specific reason for the social recognition of marriage."

Snip...

As well, Cardinal Ruini reiterated the position of the Diocese of Rome in denying euthanasia advocate Piergiorgio Welby a Catholic funeral, after the disabled man asked to receive sedation and have his respirator removed, resulting in his death Dec.20, 2007.

Steamy stuff, huh. In my experience, the media always cover up misconduct by liberals, including treason. It's their job. Of course they gave Sandy Berger a free pass. There is no need for fanciful explanations of the timing.

I didn't think a respectable church would allow a congressman in the door.

I gather, in this writer's unstocked mind, it was emotional Terribots vs. science. Perhaps he can give us a scientific explanation of how Terri went from healthy to cardiac arrest late one night right after her lying husband came home? The medical examiner scientifically refuted Michael's pathetic alibi. Scientifically speaking, then, there is only one suspect and he has no alibi. I wonder if this writer can overcome his emotion enough to face these facts?

This story comes from a link in The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation website.

It is one of many coming from the Foundation and if any haven't visited, it is full of information.

Bill Starr (76) claims he has been told that his wife, Maureen, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, is now dying. Hucknall-born Maureen (63) has been a resident of the Lowmoor Home at Kirkby-in-Ashfield for 18 months. But she no longer recognises her husband and Bill told the Dispatch that he called at the home last week "with the sole intention of releasing my wife's spirit".

Some in some churches believe in giving equal time to the devil. Sounds like the priest there is just wanting to be Politically Correct, a factor more important to him apparently than teachings of the Church.

The story that whacked me was that the congressman walked out. That was his expression that he valued stem cell research over the teachings of the church. It was an act of apostasy.

Haleigh Poutre Update...

The Republican just posted this blame game. We hear some explanations of how it all happened from the Govt. perspective.

BOSTON - The commissioner of the state Department of Social Services yesterday said the agency wanted to remove Haleigh Poutre from her abusive home, but was thwarted by medical professionals who insisted the girl's wounds were self-inflicted.

During the first meeting of a new legislative panel investigating child abuse, Lewis H. Spence, commissioner of the agency since 2001, said social workers were aware the child was suffering from some severe injuries. The girl's treatment team, including doctors, psychiatrists and pediatricians, blocked the agency from separating the child from the adoptive mother and stepfather who were later charged with abusing her, Spence said.

"We were the only party pressing to remove the child from her home and were deeply impeded by the treatment team," Spence said, after he was questioned by Rep. Stephen P. LeDuc, D-Marlboro, a panel member.
