The real danger, they say, is not the minority of islamic radicals out there, it's those stupid bigoted Americans.
I have a feeling you might get flamed for that.
But I agree with you. The terrorists are a big danger, but the ignorant bigots are part of the problem, definitely not part of the solution.

I'm far more concerned about the hundreds of thousands of islamic male immigrants coming into this country than I am about homegrown bigoted rednecks.
For the life of me I can't remember the last time the Klan sawed the head off a Jewish reporter and put it on the internet.
Nor can I remember the last time members of the Aryan Nations hijacked a jetliner full of civilians and slammed it into an office building also full of civilians.
I'm also hard pressed to think of a single instance where a neo-Nazi rally attracted more than a few dozens whereas mohameden 'rallies' are typically tens of thousands all chanting "Death To Everybody Who Ain't Us" even in places like the UK or France.
Are American bigots unhelpful? Hard to say. What do you mean by 'help'?
Are we in a much more deadly danger from these islamofascist nutjobs who have absolutely no respect for human life? You betcha.
Besides it seems to me we're actually importing far more racist anti-semitic whackkjobs than we're growing domestically.

(Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.)
Maybe you have some examples of how ignorant bigots are causing such big problems for Muslims in America, since you evidently they are an actual problem, as opposed to a rigged up propaganda talking point of the left/islam-fascist funders?
After 911, "IGNORANT bIGOTS" became "EDUCATED BIGOTS". The problem are the vast numbers of people who refuse to believe there exists a danger from Islamofacist and other sorts of terrorists.

Allegra, I understand and sympathize with your views, but we have to understand that left-wing extremist hate-baiters like Klein are also part of the problem. He's not interested in stopping discrimination, he's interested in portraying all conservatives, Republicans, and/or servicemembers as bigots. You and I don't want all Muslims to have to wear a crescent, but Klein doesn't care. He still wants to call us Nazis, and no amount of "We're nice ladies" is going to make him change his mind.

(Being a feminist is all about being a victim. Being an armed woman is all about not being a victim.)
I think there is a difference between hating a religion that teaches hatred, and hating a person who claims to be an adherent to that religion.
Islam is NOT a religion of peace. Yes I have read the Koran and even have one next to me, right behind me on the book shelf, so I do know what it says.
I do NOT think it is bigoted, however, to segregate a group of people who have historically, because of their beliefs or allegiances, have proven dangerous, especially when the ones that live here have NEVER held any parades declaring the actions of 9/11 to be an atrocity and do not represent their views.
In fact, the greatest majority of these people who hold Islam as their religious view constantly tell us they want to kill us.
I had a friend install a power supply in Iraq. He told me that in private, 80% of them would say thank you for being there, but only 20% would say it in public. That was 2 years ago.
I dont know what you see, but where you are, politics is controlling things as much as religion, and a whole new paradigm is taking place in Iraq, so I would expect the personal views to be a little different.
But other than Turkey, and American controlled Iraq, can you tell me honestly where there are peaceful Muslims who arent killing someone based on religion and not just on personal behaviour?
