Thank you for publishing Paula Morris' guest column (The Star, Nov. 30). Make her a regular, please. Her articulate statement of the liberal position made this almost 72-year-old crone jump up and down and yell. (My dog thinks I'm demented but he has lots of company).
Ms. Morris is correct about the backlash. It can be vicious. As I drive to my office each day I pass a building with a sign in flashing light bulbs which has the statement ever since the mid-term election, "al-Qaida celebrates!"
Whoever is behind it has a right to his or her opinion but we who don't agree have a right to express ours without being labeled traitors.
I laud Ms. Morris for her column and The Star for publishing it. I don't know Ms. Morris but if the current administration has it's way, we may be in adjoining cells at Gitmo before long.

Oh please! Our country is fighting two wars and is on the brink of two more. We have a president who can't utter a coherent sentence no matter how hard he tries. And your new conservative columnist is concerned over gay marriage. Can't the neocons ever get over guns and gays?
More than 2,000 of our young people have died in Iraq alone. Our civil rights and Constitution have been demolished by Bush and his neocon sycophants and all Fran Eaton can worry about is gay marriage.
I'm a heterosexual who was married for 27 years and I've been widowed for 24. I still can't figure out how my marriage would have been threatened by allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry. Actually, if society benefits from stable heterosexual marriage -- and prevailing wisdom says it does -- why would it not benefit from stable homosexual marriage? Has anyone ever been able to answer that one?
When one has no answer to the real questions, when the real issues defy answers, the only solution is distraction. Hence the demonizing of gays and lesbians. The problem is that gays and lesbians are real living, breathing human beings with real emotions. One can only imagine the anguish they feel as they read and hear the neocon dreck.

I have a similarly "feeling" loony left friend, and in my limited understanding, this worldview is attributable to pride. Tremendous, blinding pride, where she truly believes she is above human nature (i.e., give peace a chance, etc.) and, beyond all logic, refuses to see what history & current events show us about human behavior and the actual chances (not to mention price-tag) peace has. Not unrelated, this friend has fallen for several scams and pyramid schemes in the decade plus I've known her, learning apparently nothing, although in many other ways she is very smart. Pride is literally blinding.
So she purports to be a Catholic who supports homosexual marriage? Propably "pro-abortion" too.
