There would have to be multiple awards, like the Pulitzer, for various categories of "news" and opinion but it would be confusing because most "news" today is opinion--or, more technically, propaganda. This is a great idea. You could list categories here once a year and we could submit nominees and their "stories" or columns. Then we could vote on the finalists. We could expect some coverage, at least, on the other conservative sites. The Stalinist genocide apologist Durhanty is a good choice for an icon.
I recorded a TV progran in the late 80s about the Ukranine famine which occured in the early 1930s. It was in 2 parts: the first was a panel discussion including Bill Buckley & Christopher Hitchens about the Ukraine famine . The second was a documentary about the famine which was produced by a group of survivors. I would like to somehow make that available to Freepers who might be interested. I don't know if there might be coptright problems.
For those who don't know about this:
A famine was caused by Stalin in order to destroy opposition to collectivation in Ukraine & to raise foreign currency. Walter Duranty was a reporter for the NY Times. He was awarded a Pulitzer prize for his reorting of Russia under communism in the 1930s. He sent back glowing reports about how everything was great in Russia.
Duranty admitted later that he did know know about the artificialy induced famine. "Liberals" supported Duranty's Pulitzer & still do to this day. It's difficult to know how many millions died during the Ukraine Holocoast, some estimates approach the number killed in Hitler's holocoast.
