Massachusetts state troopers may soon be allowed to arrest immigrants who are in the state illegally.
Currently, troopers have no power to detain people for violations of their immigration status.
Troopers currently can call federal authorities for a check of their immigration status, and detain them if federal officials request it.
But Gov. Mitt Romney's office reportedly says the governor has worked out a deal with federal officials under which troopers will have the power to arrest.
About three dozen troopers will be given the authority after they complete a month-long training program.
The agreement, which is expected to be announced this week, is being criticized by immigrants rights groups.
Ali Noorani, executive director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, says it raises concerns about racial profiling.

Of course cops in every state should be able to detain illegal aliens and hold them for deportation. If there is not enough space in jail, set up tents as has been done in some areas.

IT was my understanding that there was a two week course that most locals could take that allows them to deal with illegals.

If a person is in this country illegally then, for the good of the country, they need to be arrested.
"Racial profiling" is a canard. A cheap politically correct trick to excuse just about any activity.

(Republicans didn`t lose this time around because they were conservative, but because they WEREN`T!)

Who doesn't love Romney's last-minute conservatism? Note that the article doesn't mention that the month long training program will end after incoming Rat governor Deval Patrick is in office, who will promptly end the program. This is posturing.

Which is probably why it won't happen. They have rights! Rights to take our entitlements and our jobs Americans won't do and all the Section 8 housing and, and, and... [/rant]

Does that nullify a good idea?
To: traderrob6
Exactly my thought, a ruse, a ploy to gain favor on an agenda for a Presidential Campaign.
To: juliej
40 police? 4000 would be a better start.
To: traderrob6
Nope, but the incoming MA Gov. probably will.

(Slick Romney show bump).
Every citizen should be able to 'capture' felons. Nay, they should be required if able. But...
....oh, that's right. Unless it is paying taxes or some patriotic send your self/kid to war...that would be Amero-centric bigotry.
Other than running billion dollar corporations, going out to the Atlantic in a 100 year old wood trawler, surgery, physics, pilot...(insert ten thousand other jobs)..other than that...Americans can't be trusted.
Nothing to see, move along, move along.

So now with only a month left as governor, Romney is ready to go full bore with a program against illegals that will just start working when he leaves office. Then it will immediately be canceled by the new governor.
Nice.

"Massachusetts state troopers may soon be allowed to arrest immigrants who are in the state illegally."
Taxachusetts state troopers to be given arrest power?
Gee, next they'll be issuing them each a bullet.
