"The Spence School is a highly-ranked private day school for girls in New York City. It offers a liberal arts program for college preparation from kindergarten through grade 12. The student body numbers approximately 600.

Founded in 1892 by Clara B. Spence, the school is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Enrolling students from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, as well as nearby suburbs, Spence endeavors to reflect the multi-ethnic character of New York City. The school claims to offer a "climate of independent thinking."

It's been named as one of the top prep schools for celeb's kids.

Yes, but it is by no means "liberal." Mostly it exists for marrying off the daughters of the well off to the sons of the well off.

In a past life I dated a couple of Spence graduates. They were by no means the sharpest tools in the shed.

Yeah, right, some aggressively-handled and controlled publicist and magazine editor just misquoted her.

If you care of such things, Fieldston and Horace Mann up in Da Bronx are much better schools in terms of academics.

Maybe it's just damage control, and maybe she was misconstrued. I'd rather drink in an Irish pub in Ireland, but would never forget I'm a yank in their eyes and mine. I'd rather go to a Gast Haus in Germany than a steak house in the US, but I love America more than any country. If that's the type of thing she originally meant, she has my sympathy. If she's just looking at market share as a movie star, she can kiss off.

I dunno---this is the first time these types of remarks have been attributed to her.

I seem to remember her making some comment about not finding any Brits worth dating probably about 4 years ago. That led to some criticism from the press there, which led to her to say that she couldn't have been more misunderstood. Do you recall that one?

"I felt so upset to be completely misconstrued"

"Obviously I need to go back to seventh-grade Spanish!"

And after Spanish she going to try and learn what "misconstrued" means.

Well, The quotes moved on Reuters and Agence France Press, both anti-American, both notoriously unreliable. These remarks could well be total fabrications. This is what the Euros think and they may well have put words in Paltrow's pretty mouth.
Anyway, she's flat chested, so we shouldn't care what she thinks.

She should just stick to what she does best --- play-act from a script. (definition: play-act - play a pretended role; make believe.)

I understand Gwynnie, who wowed the critics in Shakespeare in Love, has been offered the lead in a feminized version of the Sir Thomas Moore story. The working title is "A Bitch for All Seasons."

This is all about Estee Lauder and fears about their Christmas sales being affected.

We have a winner!

I can't believe some give her a pass because of her looks, or because they like her movies. This wouldn't be the first time she disparaged America.

How is that any different from American Northeast liberals moving south? They bitch about where they came from and proceed to screw up their new homes until they're undistiguishable from what they left behind.

I've been researching all the previous anti-American Gwyneth quotes, and they have mysteriously disappeared from the websites. I did find this article though, and it speaks for itself:

Oscar-winning US actress Gwyneth Paltrow feels dinner talk is far more interesting in her adopted homeland Britain than back in her native country.

"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. People don't talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner," she told "NS," the weekend magazine supplement of daily Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias on Saturday.

"I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans," the 34-year-old added.

Paltrow, who won a best actress Oscar for 1998's "Shakespeare in Love," lives in London with British band Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin whom she wed in 2003.

She said having US pop star Madonna, 48, who married British film director Guy Ritchie six years ago, nearby was another advantage to living in London.

"She's like an older sister. Everything I have gone through, she went through ten times worse and ten times longer. She gives me good advice about how to say no and take care of myself," said Paltrow.
