Good thing: Increased public education as to the crap Americans are ingesting into their bodies that contribute to our health insurance nightmares.

Bad thing: Nanny state, here we come.

Now, I'll make it to age 45 & beyond.

Obviously, the first 44 years were just luck.

Now if Bloomersberger would just ban sex between consenting liberals we could soon change the out look in liberal New York.

OOPS.....I forgot most liberals are same sex so no offense to conservatives who are trying to keep civilization going the Old Fashioned Way.

I remember years ago when people were first talking about banning smoking, I would always say: "What's next, banning fried chicken?!"

I thought that was so clearly outrageous that something like that would never happen. I was obviously very naive.

I am guessing there will be loopholes for enough vendors to still sell such products -- which may make it even harder for people to know whether there are consuming trans fat.

Does a population that eats cow lungs and armadillos really care about trans-fats? I'd think the NYC Board of Health should be more concerned about live poultry sales of sick birds, along with the ungodly meats aforementioned, than what fats their up-scale restaurants are using.

I think we should be notified so the market can decide.

We don't want to go back to the turn of the 1900s where it was insane as to what was being put in foods.

Colored wax passed as chocholate, coal tar for coloring, opium to get people adicted to your food product. It was not a good time.

It is not as if there are substitutes for trans fats.

I recommend if you see a leaking anus on your potato chip that you set it down gently and back away, just back away. And in the future use a spoon to consume your RDA of olestra.

Bloomberg is missing the boat here. He should enact a trans-fat tax of say $5.00 per meal, just like cigarettes. Just keep telling yourself "IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN"

Did Chicago already repeal the fois gras ban? Hadn't heard that.Glory Alleluia if they did. But alas, NYC's Nanny Gestapo is also exploring the idea of enacting the F.G. ban in their city.

I don't eat fois & avoid transfats like the plague, but all these raving lunatics who want to dictate to their fellow citizens what they can & cannot put into their mouths should start first by observing another ban themselves - the one against smoking crack! These arrogant, self-righteous twits' brains have obviously already taken an extended dip in the deep-fryer.

On the bright side, all this is making a lot of erstwhile bleeding heart liberals who also happen to be foodies begin to realize the downside to having supported the expansion of government intrusion into everyone else's lives all these years.Lotsa chefs out there are suddenly reading up on libertarian philosophy these days, now that it's their ox (next on the list?) being gored, lol!

This won't save one life let alone many. It will however, embolden the nanny staters to continue taking away our freedom to choose. Sheeple = enablers.

I doubt it. People who eat out too much and people who eat out and eat fast foods too much are not doing their health any good anyway unless they are very careful about what they eat when they eat out. I doubt a little trans-fat is going to be harmful..might even be good for you so banning it from restaurants won't benefit much because those who care about what they eat aren't eating it anyway. Those who don't care will still suffer from what they eat.
