Dec. 5. 2006 - In a surprise twist in the debate over Iraq, Rep. Silvestre Reyes, the soon-to-be chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said he wants to see an increase of 20,000 to 30,000 U.S. troops as part of a stepped up effort to dismantle the militias.

and when we don't do it, he'll blame President Bush. Either way, Bush will get the blame.
That's fine and dandly for him to "WANT." What about the generals on the ground and President Bush? Or, are we handing everything over to the slim margin of Dems?
I'm pinching myself here...
FATwa !! ROFLMAO!!
I believe this is already under consideration.
Everyone has an idea on how to change things. The war is being won in spite of the naysayers on FR and elsewhere. It is slow, painful but other than Baghdad most of the country is relatively peaceful.
The problem is a small minority with IEDs and suicide bombers can kill almost at will. Certainly, they kill the Iraqi civilians at will and while they have a harder time with coalition troops they do succeed often enough to make the MSM.
More troops means more targets. If the generals had wanted them they would have asked for them. In the meantime, it is a pleasant surprise to hear a RAT talk about how to win rather than we have already lost.
Not with Iran vs Israel heating up.
And Gen Zinni said in the NYT interview to cut and run would be a disaster
What is going on here
Not according to Kucinich. He has stated unequivacally that he will try to cut funding to the Military in Iraq.
The reporting is that the Chief of General Staff report, i.e. the Military Command report is going to recommend increase of troops level for a short period of time, of course "short" is always relative. It can be few month to more than a year. I think the President will follow the recommendations of the Military i.e. increase the troops level and going to throw the Baker-Hamilton defeatist report in the trash.
I've seen this for a while. Many Dims actually didn't oppose Iraq war. They just didn't want it to be won under Bush and the GOP.

Move the Green Zone and all media to the north with the Kurds.
CorpulentWah.
What a pleasant surprise this is!
My personal opinion is that Iran is bloviating.
Zinny the ninny said WHAT!????????????
"That's FATwa."
ROFL!
Not what we need right now.
Yewp- thje dems are ow our commanders in Chief- They know better than the truckloads of generals and commanders on the ground in Iraq just exactly what Iraq needs. http://sacredscoop.com
So this must be part of the Democrat's "plan". General Silvestre Reyes should publish his "plan".
Now that Democrats have lied their way into power, they support Bush's policies? Oy!
Harman Starts Looking Better To The Left?
*************AN EXCERPT*********************
One has to wonder what strategy Nancy Pelosi has decided to pursue in the next session of Congress. After a couple of major missteps in the days following the Democratic Party's midterms successes, she has managed to transform what had they described as a mandate for clean government and an end to the American involvement in Iraq into a serious muddle. First she champions two men for key leadership posts that have serious questions of corruption in their backgrounds. Now the man she selected to replace one of them wants to back the Pentagon and expand the American commitment in Iraq (via Hot Air):

Pelosi will undoubtedly have many Democrats making their views very clear on her selection of Reyes, now that Newsweek has reported it. They expected that key chairs would go to Democrats opposed to the war in Iraq, not those who supported an escalation of American involvement. Newsweek quotes Ray McGovern, a former intelligence analyst that has campaigned for Bush's impeachment, as almost apoplectic:
Reyess comments were immediately blasted by one Iraq war critic who expressed concerns that they would give new respectability to an idea that has lost considerable support in official Washington as the violence in Iraq has escalated. I think he [Reyes] needs a course in Insurgency 101, said Ray McGovern, a former CIA analyst who has been active in an anti-war group called the Steering Group for Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity. Have they learned nothing from Vietnam? If he pushes this and gets some support for it, and with McCain in the Senate, it could become more respectable I think Reyes has got a lot to learn.
I love that idea.
Perhaps its time the Iraqi's used some more of that oil money to help pay for our efforts on their behalf.
and the Saudi's too.
perhaps we could bill the Iranians our of their frozen assets - if they have any left.
and bill the UN too, while we are at it. Force them to consider it as part of our dues payment.
About 6 to 10 more Americans could win the war tomorrow---Sn Fran Nancy, Harry Reid, Hillorat, Teddy, Murtha, Levin, and the heads of the NYT and major networks, all of them together announce that we are in this war to win and they back the Commander-in-Chief !00%.
WEll a guy can still dream!
The Democrat have been handed a war and don't quite know what to do about it.
The Demonrats have to rely on the leftist nutjobs because that really is who their party is. They'll continue putting on a 'moderate' face because they have such a slim 'majority' but the fact remains the same in that they push a liberal agenda the public wouldn't support if it was knowledgeable. Judges need to be a big topic in the '08 elections because Demonrats put in judges that fight for terrorist rights, along with the criminals-child molesters, murderers, etc. They need it used against them because that doesn't hide their agenda.
said Ray McGovern, a former CIA analyst who has been active in an anti-war group called the Steering Group for Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity.
And then we also have a report of Specter cuddling up to Ray McGovern's buddies Joe & Valerie Wilson these days - I thought the Wilsons were moving to Kalifornia?
Small, small world with tiny-minded people, in my opinion.
Thanks for the post, piasa.
From the article:
"One source familiar with aspects of the Baker-Hamilton panels deliberations said that the idea of an increase of U.S. troop strength of 20,000 to 30,000 had been pushed by some U.S. military commanders for some time. However, Democratic members of the commission were unwilling to go along with any proposal that would indicate an expansion of the U.S. mission in that country, according to the source, who asked not to be identified talking about sensitive matters."
True, could be they got carried away with the capitalization.
