Biden: Donít link Iraq with Palestinian conflict
JTA ^ | 12-6-06

Posted on 12/06/2006 12:36:09 PM PST by SJackson

U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) said it would be “dangerously naive” to link the revival of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks with progress on Iraq. Speaking Monday to a gathering of the Israel Policy Forum in New York, the incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee responded to news reports that the Baker-Hamilton Commission is set to recommend reinvigorating American involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian track as a means to win moderate Arab support for stabilizing Iraq.

“Israeli-Palestinian peace should be pursued aggressively on its own merits, period, not as some sort of diplomatic price to make the Arab states feel good so they will help us in Iraq,” Biden said.

The Baker-Hamilton Commission, also known as the Iraq Study Group, is scheduled to present its recommendations Wednesday.

Yes, somebody tell me exactly where Israel is behind the current conflict in Iraq. That ISG is absolutely wrong headed. It sounds like they sat around reading Iranian propoganda as their blueprint.

It is amazing that a Democrat is more clear headed about our enemies than Baker. Baker's "F" the Jews is sure showing in this idea.

As predicted.

Democracts will come to Israel's defense against the Bush Administration.

You know what? Fine. If it gets them on the right side of issues then its worth it.

Know why things are not working out in Iraq?

Israel's fault.

From the report:

"Several Iraqi, U.S., and international officials commented to us that Iraqi opposition to the United States—and support for Sadr— spiked in the aftermath of Israel’s bombing campaign in Lebanon."

No mention of why Israel was bombing Lebanon.

It's all kooky defeatism. Talking to Iran won't work when we need to be destroying Iran's nuke program. Israeli withdrawal from the Golan heights is absurd when Syria and Iran are expanding into Lebanon. Pressuring our allies will only embolden their enemies. This report is crap.

They actually say that some people "mentioned" to them that some Iraqi opposition "spiked" when Israel was fighting in Lebanon??? What the hell does that even mean? Not much.

Like you, I ask, how does betraying our friends and abandoning our allies help to stop Syria and Iran from pursuing their support for terrorism. They get rewarded and those who fought with us and allied themselves get sacrificed in a sell out of historical proportion. Baker and his ilk need their heads examined.

I'm listening to Sean Hannity read the report now. We should talk to Iran "without preconditions." So Iran can have its nuke program, interfere in Lebanon, and want to exterminate Israel (and us for that matter). How special.

It's an absolute outrage. Who wants to be a Republican when Biden makes more sense on fundamentals of loyalty to democratic ideals and to long-standing allies? Baker is living his profane opinion of the Jews with his "F" them comments now offered as an official policy.

Well, thank God and Israel for that. If it takes political pressure to make the US Congress and the US President behave in an honorable way consistent with our values, then again thank God for the Israeli lobby. Those who abandon friends for expediency soon have none.

Come on Yanks. Make nice with a country that kidnapped your countrymen and held them hostages for over 400 days. They have been sponsoring the murder of Americans, all over this globe, for over 27 years. Make nice with these nasty Iranians so Mr. Baker can collect more gifts from these crafty Saudis.

And you wonder why we don't jump to help in every war that the US gets involved in? We just hate to be abandoned when it’s politically convenient for the US.
The Vietnamese paid with a million lives, how many Jews must be sacrificed to satisfy the Arabs?

The Saudis could have settled the Palestinian problem by advocating that the Palis be settled in Arab states. Obviously what they want is Israel to disappear.

Thanks, I'm glad to see a Republican agrees. Actually, it's a nonsensical linkage, which will be rejected by many across party lines.
