Adult stem cell researcher James Sherley has been invited to Canberra by parliamentarians who want to uphold a ban on therapeutic cloning. "I'm not here to stop choice, I think it's important the public have accurate information," Professor Sherley, from Boston's Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), said on ABC radio.
"It's my concern as a practicing scientist that I'm hearing some of my colleagues either not speaking in a complete fashion about what we know about embryonic stem cells and also misrepresentation of what those cells are capable of doing.
"In terms of fundamental biology, embryonic stem cells are not able to be used to treat adult tissue." One major barrier to using embryonic stem cells in therapy was that tumors could form when they were put into adult tissue, Prof Sherley said. Also, cloned cells had inherent defects in their genetic material that would make any cells derived from them ineffective. Finally, embryonic stem cells lacked adult stem cells' ability to make tissue without changing their form, so they could never be used to treat human diseases that required cell replacement and regeneration, he said.

Benefits of Stem Cells to Human Patients - Do No Harm
Adult Stem Cells have a proven moral, ethical and effective track record. There is no need to experiment on God's image in the human embryonic stage.
"But...but; all that grant money. My research lab, my job, my family....we can't let this out to the public"! Its being said somewhere tonight!
Is that picture really a good way to win friends and influence people?
If what you say is true, why have you been rubbing me the wrong way since your first critique?
You opined, "With good political discourse it is possible to state your beliefs without demonizing your opponent." And how should one react to outright lies told to move an agenda that is based in lying and mischaracterizations spewed out purposefully to manipulate the issue and the readers of the issue? Those pushing embryonic stem cell exploitation have been anything and everything EXCEPT honest and forthright.
