AP) LONG BEACH, Calif. Police say reputed gang members totaled the car of a woman who testified against African American youths accused of beating three white women during a Halloween block party in Long Beach.
Authorities say the woman, 18, has been under police escort. She was in court Tuesday when a car full of men reversed and backed into her car as it was parked in front of her home.
Police commander Jeff Johnson told the Long Beach Press-Telegram that it appears as though the gang members are sending her another message.
Last week, after her first day in court, she awoke to find six men sitting on her car apparently waiting for her.
On Wednesday, the judge in the Superior Court case ordered that the woman's name not be used in court.
The woman spent five days on the witness stand. The youths have all pleaded not guilty to felony assault charges. Eight of them have been charged with a hate crime.
This would me major news in the MSN if the races of the people involved were reversed. Now that's what you call institutionalized racism to the core.
I heard this on kfi last night. This took a LOT of courage on her part to testify.

If the races were reversed she would have the FBI, State Police and every black man in the country who claims the title "Rev." camped outside her house.
Where is the media outrage in this case? If she had used any of the forbidden words for which we are allowed to utter only the first letter or said anything contrary to PC, the media would have gone ballistic.

At the very least, the prosecutor in this case ought to seek a restraining order against the thugs frightening this woman.

Last time I checked, intimidating or threatening a witness in a criminal case is a federal civil rights violation punishable by ten years in prison. Why isn't the FBI rounding these thugs up?
In reality... The law needs to get these punks locked up and more. This FREeper doesn't see it as a hate crime to step up the process on death penalty's of guilty POS's.

Judge's fault.
I was moving out of my apartment - it was evening, and my neighbors were having a party .. they were so glad to see me move because they were tired of me complaining about the all-night parties.
My son and his friends had taken a load of furniture to the new apartment - and immediately the whole group descended on my car in the parking area. I could see my car from my apartment - so I just kept watching them. Then .. I totally FAKED them out. I picked up the receiver on my phone (which was already disconnected and began pretending like I was talking to somebody about the problem and I began to point my finger at the parking lot quite a few times. Low and behold, somebody discovered me talking on the phone (LOL) and they all ran back into their apartment.
They're cowards.
I don't think the L.A. Times has reported this part of the story.
Correct, he may have saved all 3 girls lives. Definitely stopped the attack.
Other media have kept the name quiet but the L.A.Times used it and continued to do so after the judge issues this order.

It is the second case of witness intimidation suffered by the 18-year-old, according to police.
They and the district attorney said she awoke the day after her first day on the stand and found six large men, also believed to be gang members, sitting on her car waiting for her.
She called police, who gave her an escort to court that day and who have done so every day since, Cmdr. Jeff Johnson said.
"This is not a quick fix," Johnson vowed Wednesday. "We're not only looking out for her safety during the trial, but after it ends as well."
"And for obvious reasons, we don't want to go into exactly what is being done," he added.

In Brazil and El Salvador when things got to this point the police started covert ops to eliminate the gangs. Wonder how long till that happens here?
