Most of the tax cuts they extended were goofy things like for solar panels and arcane things like tax credits on sales taxes for people who live in states without an income tax.

If they wanted to win real brownie points with the voters, they should have scrapped all of these piecemeal items and passed significant tax reform.

Why? Tax cuts do nothing but complicate the tax code more & the extra revenue gets wasted on big government programs.
