Jefferson Re-elected (Democrats re-elect crook)
WWLTV.com ^ | 12/9/06

Posted on 12/09/2006 8:16:52 PM PST by LdSentinal

Congressman William Jefferson has been re-elected to Congress, according to WWL-TV election analyst Greg Rigamer.

With two-thirds of the vote counted, Jefferson had a 6,000-vote lead over challenger Karen Carter.

"I'm a little worried about what this is going to say to the nation," said City Councilwoman Cynthia Hedge-Morrell, a Carter supporter.

Jefferson was forced into the runoff against a fellow Democrat when he failed to win 50 percent of the vote in a crowded open multiparty primary. His opponent, state Rep. Karen Carter, is seeking to become the first black woman from Louisiana elected to Congress.

Jefferson, 59, has been handicapped by a wide-ranging investigation into allegations that he took bribes – including $90,000 allegedly found in his freezer during an FBI raid -- from a company seeking lucrative contracts in the Nigerian telecommunications market. He has not been charged with any crime and denies any wrongdoing.

The scandal turned the race into a debate largely divided along racial lines, an age-old dynamic in this city that has intensified since Hurricane Katrina displaced large numbers of blacks and upended their demographic and political dominance.

Whites, who overwhelmingly voted for Carter in the primary and have been her most enthusiastic financial backers, believe a Jefferson win would confirm this city's image as corrupt and untrustworthy as it asks the nation to fund its recovery from Katrina.

He may be a crook, but he won by campaigning on traditional values. For whatever it is worth:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1748569/posts

# In his latest ad, Jefferson is turning to social issues to motivate the churchgoing African-American community. He accuses Carter of supporting same-sex marriage, late-term abortions and cloning. He's running as a cultural conservative in an overwhelmingly Dem district.

Full script: ANNCR: Karen Carter says there's a big difference between her and Congressman Jefferson. Especially when it comes to family values. Karen Carter voted for same-sex marriage. (on screen: picture of two women holding hands) Congressman Jefferson voted against it. Karen Carter voted for late-term abortions.

Congressman Jefferson voted to stop late-term abortions altogether. Congressman Jefferson voted to make it illegal to clone a human being. But Karen Carter was the only member of the Louisiana House to vote against making human cloning a crime. Big difference? You bet there is

So it's true to it's trashy image. Big surprise.

MIDI - COLD AS ICE

This bill's cold as ice...my boss says it won't suffice, no sir
This isn't very nice...he'll make me pay the price, no sir

I've not had a hundred that would ever snap
So Congressman Jefferson what is this crap
I bring pizza hot...right here to your door
I live off my tips...what are you doing this for?

This bill's cold as ice...my boss says it won't suffice, no sir
This isn't very nice...he'll make me pay the price, no sir

I don't understand dishonest Democrats
We search for corruption...that is where you're always at
One day a rich drunk drives off of a bridge
Now you hide your bribe money right there in your fridge

Cold as ice...it's freezing my hand
Cold as ice

This hundred is cold as ice
This hundred is cold as ice
This hundred is cod as ice

"Hey Nancy Pelosi, here's your "Culture of Corruption""

I am not slightly surprised. Dems excoriate GOP crooks and reelect their own! Foley makes gay email suggestions and resigns. Studs has gay sex with an intern does not resign, is defiant, and is actually cheered on the house floor.

The GOP is stupid not to point this out every chance they get and the electorate that elected these animals deserves everything bad they get. It is too bad that good people live in those districts with them.

Surely nobody is surprised by this.

Democrats couldn't care less about corruption, lawlessness, deviate perversion or anything else - - for the Democrat "base" of parasites, malcontents, and losers it's all about the "free stuff" that their politicians confiscate from normal, hard-working, taxpaying traditional American families (Republicans) and "redistribute" to them.

Nothing else is on their radar screen.

For your edification, LA-02 is the majority black district in Louisiana. It combines the poorest areas of Jefferson Parish and Orleans.

Karen Carter was a horrendous candidate. She supported gay marriage, late term abortions, Hillary's healthcare plan and economically was to the left of Stalin.

As it stands now, Carter is winning in Orleans Parish by a vote of 52-48. However she is getting trounced in Jefferson Parish (which is actually 50-50 white-black) 73-27.

I live in uptown New Orleans. I voted for Bill Jefferson today for several reasons. Pelosi would have welcomed Carter with open arms. It would have been one more vote for the far left socilaist agenda.

Jefferson being indicted in office will be a great boon to the GOP. And I am not the only conservative who thinks so.

Furthermore, I love denying the white liberals in this city any power whatsoever.

That is just like the disclosure of Bush's old dwi before the 2000 election. I am sure these tactics helped in some races, particularly with squishy supporters. Probably the war was the bigger issue, but the GOP was not aggressive enough in pointing out what grifting scum the Dems are.

I observed more and more blatant media bias leading up to this election that ever before. The Grand Old Party better make a supreme effort to unscrew themselves or we will be looking at a disaster in 08!

Carter concedes
From the ABC26 newsroom:

Don't let the applause, bellows of support, and Carter's composed demeanor deceive you, Carter's speech was a concession.

Karen Carter made her concession speech at 10:20 and in doing so, capped off what was one of the most interesting and hyped political races in recent years.

ABC26 Political Analyst Jeff Crouere says it was Carter's failure to get out the white vote that got her in the end. Crouere sums the election results as a loss for Carter not a win for Jefferson.
