Democrats’ New Intelligence Chairman Needs a Crash Course on al Qaeda
Congressional Quarterly ^ | Dec. 8, 2006 | Jeff Stein, CQ National Security Editor

Posted on 12/11/2006 7:15:30 AM PST by PurpleMan

The dialogue went like this:

Al Qaeda is what, I asked, Sunni or Shia? “Al Qaeda, they have both,” Reyes said. “You’re talking about predominately?” “Sure,” I said, not knowing what else to say. “Predominantly — probably Shiite,” he ventured. He couldn’t have been more wrong.

Al Qaeda is profoundly Sunni. If a Shiite showed up at an al Qaeda club house, they’d slice off his head and use it for a soccer ball.

That’s because the extremist Sunnis who make up al Qaeda consider all Shiites to be heretics.

Iran is Shiite

So we need the Sunnis on our side to help fight Iran

And Al Qaeda is Sunni

So we need The Shiites on our side to help fight Al Qaeda

And Iran is harboring and helping Al Qaeda

So....I think my head just exploded

Congressman Sgt. Silvestre Reyes would do well to hire himself a tutor on the fractious tribes in Iraq as well as all in the Arab world. That should be a prerequisite for all members on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Why do they send good men to do jobs with no background or knowledge about what they are doing?

The congressman from the Dhimmicrat party knows his place as an infidel is not concern himself with the affairs of Islam - but to surrender.

"Why do they send good men to do jobs with no background or knowledge about what they are doing? "

The writer also rips into Republican members of the committee for not knowing certain things, though he doesn't detail them.

For the incoming chairman not to know this stuff. Well.

I remember when candidate Bush could not go through a litany of heads of state for some smart aleck Boston reporter...this Democrat won't get the same treatment from the broadcasters. He'll be lionized.

On the other hand, for this guy not to know about Hezbollah, that just takes the cake.

Democrats are bleak.

It will probably come crashing through his window, shortly after being hijacked.

You might find this of interest, too. I doubt the Congressman cares.

Reyes can’t be bothered to even try to understand the threat.

Reyes has been a sitting member of the Intelligence Committee for the past five years, has he not?

This report seems to constitute ample evidence that he hasn't been paying attention. At all. Why should he start now?

It's republicans and democrats alike. I'd be willing to bet that most of the people in congress would be unable to answer most of those questions.

"I'd be willing to bet that most of the people in congress would be unable to answer most of those questions."

This issue that HE was unable to tell the difference. Not every one of the 435 reps are going to be Head of the House Intelligence Committee.

Oh, I definitely agree with that. The point I'm making is that all of them need some serious educating on what is happening in the world. It's THEIR job to know more than we do, but that isn't the case at all.

And you're right, the head of the intelligence committee is criminal if he doesn't know the difference between Shiia and Sunni.

It's not just them, though. The Republicans also appear clueless in this regard.
