ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS: Pahrump to re-enter fray
Las Vegas Review-Jornl ^ | 12 Dec 06 | Henry Breane

It hasn't been introduced yet, but a proposed town ordinance targeting illegal immigrants in Pahrump already is drawing comparisons to one of the darkest chapters in U.S. history.

If approved sometime next year, the measure would require "undocumented foreign nationals" to register themselves at the Pahrump Town Office within 24 hours of arriving in the community 60 miles west of Las Vegas.

Illegal immigrants would each have to pay a $200 fee and fill out a form with such information as the names of all their relatives in Nevada and a list of "all forged or counterfeited documents" they might have.

Having lived in Las Vegas for close to 8 years and visiting Pahrump several times, I think this is a great idea...now can we get EVERY town to do it in a hurry?

Illegal immigrants would each have to ... list ... "all forged or counterfeited documents" they might have.

Won't fly. Since forged or counterfeited documents are illegal to posess, it is a violation of the prohibition on self incrimination to list them. On the other hand, the Supremes have held that it is legal to require each machine gun to have a tax stamp, so it would be legal to require each illegal document to have a tax stamp.

Pahrump is well known among some people as a place that has legal prostitutes. I think that the prostitutes are required to be registered, get regular VD tests, etc. So you have legal prostitutes who are required to register with the gov't and that's ok. Yet we're talking about people here illegally and it's not right to ask them to register with authorities??????????

That's easy, register twice.

As soon as an illegal registers, the city officials should call the border patrol agents to have the illegals deported.

Truly brilliant. They can't get away with the 'you can't enforce federal immigration laws' scam. They don't do this, they're in violation!

For those who criticize this, ask yourselves this: why wouldn't a municipality or state have the right to know that a criminal who broke into the country is living in their midst?

This will be attacked on a Fifth Amendment basis, but that shouldn't stand because I doubt that an illegal alien could claim the Fifth (unless such rights have been extended to them by Congress or possibly a court decision).

They won't show up!

But it would definitely be a deterrent: supposedly, once a call is made to ICE, they have to resolve it. It would stay in the system.

Laws like this will make communities radioactive to illegals. It's better than the 'no rent' laws, which are almost unenforceable.

Our town recently passed an ordinance where Landlords must pay $120 per unit to the town, so that the town can enforce occupancy regulations. We have heard of absentee landlords renting to illegals and they bring in their "friends" usually 20-30 per apartment.

As landlords, we see it as a money grab". If they were so serious about the quality of life in town, they would regulate the illegal immigrant population. If our duplex is not inspected within the year they will get a letter from our attorney.

Unfortunately, the nearest BP officers are in Yuma or El Centro and have their hands kind of full just stopping the next wave.

I hope your town has the guts to continue to enforce its code laws.

In general, zoning laws bother me from a property rights standpoint, but seeing the extreme abuses here in California and the resulting fundingand quality of life disasters made me a believer. At the very minimum, if I have to comply, they sure as hell should too.

Depends on what they mean by 'undocumented.' A foreign tourist from Canada won't have a visa or any paper work proving they entered legally, nor will any visitor from a Visa Waiver program country.

This is sort of like some of the provisions in the *comprehensive* immigration plan the Pres. is pushing. In either case, no illegals will come out of hiding, pay a fine, or learn English. Why should they?

To stop Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid from giving an amnesty, take action. Call for a full 10 year moratorium.

We must 'sour the milk.’ Bring out your points in the call:
1, America cannot support another 100 million people added to our country in 34 years, i.e., water crisis, resource depletion, air pollution, gridlock, loss of quality of life, etc.
2, America cannot support lawbreakers being given citizenship.
3, America must maintain our English language.
4, America wants only legal immigrants who play by the rules and speak English.
5, America's working poor deserve a chance at jobs taken by illegals
6, America already has too many people and I support a 10 year moratorium on all immigration.
7, Americans must maintain our schools for our children.
8, We can no longer tolerate 350,000 birthright citizens (anchor babies) annually that subtract from our own citizens.
9, Attrition through enforcement by stopping their ability to wire money home, obtain rental housing and jobs.
10, An amnesty failed in 1986, and it will only be worse today. We're being displaced out of our jobs and out of our own country. Call with relentless and never-give-up passion.
To stop illegal aliens in your community, you may follow the course of action by Mayor Louis Barletta of Hazelton, PA. He offers a bomb proof ordinance that takes business licenses away from those who hire illegals. He legally halts landlords from renting to illegals. Without work and without housing, illegals cannot stay in your community. Check out his web site for instructions: SmallTownDefenders.com

Good post. Do you know where you got the 350,000 anchor babies figure? It seems about right, considering the numbers. I would like to use it and a source would be handy....thanks.
