Assemblyman wants proof of legal residency

CARSON CITY -- Newly elected Assemblyman Ty Cobb, R-Reno, said Monday he has requested a bill to prohibit Nevada residents living here illegally from receiving most state benefits, including the Millennium Scholarship for academically qualified high school graduates.

Cobb's measure, now being drafted, would require a Social Security number or some other form of identification showing a person is a legal resident of the country before he or she could gain access to state programs.

Although emergency medical care would not be included in any ban, many other state programs could

I thought the type was perfect and far better than any other I have seen. Put it in your tag line!

It was sort of a written Freudian slip, I'm not sure how it would work in a tagline, might get me banned or something. But I agree it would be a good one!

I recall reading a while back that when an illegal had a baby they would give the men the new baby's social security card. Denying benefits is a step in the right direction, however the anchor baby is going to bite us in the a$$ big time.

Already has!!

I am so sick and tired of the 15 illegals living in our neighborhood in ONE HOUSE!! They have tires piled high in the backyard, they have young teen boys (maybe anchorbrats) washing their cars and whatever, they play very LOUD music from their pickups all day and night.

I've had this same tag line for probably a year now.

Any signal that ID will be examined is a good signal, and a discouragement for lawbreaking. I'm not as interested in doing the job well as I am in getting started doing something!

I wish the lawmaker luck.

But after Nov. 7, it's all over.

Open-borders and endless Amnesty will federal law next year.

And demographics will likely prevent a reversal for decades.
If ever.

But examining ID means nothing if the ID itself is fraudulently obtained.

It's like asking to see my Social Security card, and when I hand you my mother's card, you say, "Great. That's what we needed. Thanks."

What does that prove, except that ID is easily obtainable? (And that fact I think we all knew.)

But that's insensitive to them.

Yes, I know! Isn't that just wonderful? LOL

Many of these illegals are risk-averse. They often hate having their pictures taken--case in point, someone having some work done on his house wanted pictures of "work in progress", and the workers hurriedly moved away when they saw the camera.

It would take some boldness, indeed, to display a fake SS card to get guv benefits, rather than the wink-wink relationship the illegals have with crooked employers who seek out illegals in the first place.

It's one more layer, one more obstacle they have to overcome, one more page on the paper trail--and then you've got 'em for fraud if they do get caught.

UCLA just got hacked into. Made off with almost a million SS#'s of present and former students. There's all kinds of ID problems out there.

Sounds like you're ready to give up before it's even tried.

No they are renting and we have no idea who owns the house.

I'll bet there's a way to find out. Any police called to the place?

I'm not sure why you call me defeatist when I merely point out why the proposed solution will solve nothing.

If I found out you were taking sugar pills for cancer, I'd point out that sugar pills do not cure cancer. Would that mean I'm ready to give up the fight against cancer?

Taking cues from the citizens of Arizona... in spite of our rat governor we're making headway.

This is part of the reason that the illegals are able to own houses/condos that you and I couldn't afford. I met a woman who was a parking garage attendant and her husband (the illegal) was a house painter. The had a house and a townhouse. I live in an apartment, because I can't afford anything. Go figure.

It will do more than "nothing"--it will do "something"--it won't do "everything." I have to believe your assertion is an imposture, some kind of faked rhetoric. "Don't do it because it won't solve the problem"--well, it'll help.

A cop on the beat doesn't mean there'll be no crime in that beat. It means there'll be less crime.

That's kinda the way it is with solving a problem. And cancer is treated, generally, through several kinds of treatments, with the full knowledge that a quick cure is not possible. Surgery, chemo, radiation, therapy--you want to throw 'em all out, because none of them are reliably perfect?

Only citizens and lawful aliens ought to get government benefits. Requiring ID is the first step to enforcement.

I know of a non-profit free clinic in a community that requires ID for its services. They have NO illegals in their waiting room. NONE. NADA. The illegals head for the ER, where no ID is required.

FYI. They have plenty of boldness. They do it all the time here in California.

So far it's harder in states east of Eden. For instance, in my state it is really hard for an illegal to get a driver's license--he'd have to commit several levels of fraud. A few obstacles, and it works. Not perfectly.

Outrageous----and while sucking up US benefits on the backs of taxpayers, they are sending billions back to Mexico where they both of them will retire while collecting several SS checks (using fake ID's).
