I think the fact that LBJ and Nixon were both Senators during their political career is overshadowed by the fact that they both were Vice-Presidents before they became President. The Vice-Presidency takes them out of the 'Senator' as highest Federal office held category that was true in JFK's case.

The Senatorial to Presidential truism stands, for now...

Obama was educated in Islamic madrassas in both Hawaii and Indonesia, up until high school, when his mother returned to Hawaii after divorcing her second Muslim husband, and enrolled him in Catholic High School. If you listen very closely when he is talking about God, you can't be sure which God he is talking about.

If you watched that special on Islamic madrassas and the overwhelming effect that they have on young minds, you will agree that Obama is very scary.

I just don't see us voting in a woman, no way!

I'd have voted for the recently departed Jeanne Kirkpatrick, in 1988.

Sorry fellow white guys but it's time for a black man to hold up the beacon of hope and the miracle that is America to the rest of the indigenous (read non-white) people of the world

Fine, let it be Lynn Swann or better yet J.C. Watts. Or both, since they are of different states.

I counted 64 tooth caps in Hitlery's mouth alone. Got tired counting the caps in Osama Hussein Obama's mouth.

DeLay has no business trying to get people interested in his organization -- which may well be a good idea -- if he's predicting defeat in '08 at the same time. He also has no business talking defeat no matter what. This isn't leadership.

I'm afraid that DeLay speaks truth. When you consider how many people here on FR won't vote for someone who isn't a "perfect" conservative (in their opinion), then we are at risk of having Hillary win the election. As you know from other threads there are people who could care less if Hillary wins if they don't get their ideal conservative. Yeah, I think DeLay could be right. You can call that being negative, but to me it is simply being a realist.

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said today that Sen. Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y.) would be elected president in 2008 and would probably tap Senate colleague Barack Obama (D.-Ill.) as her running mate.

DeLay met with conservative bloggers at a weekly lunch meeting hosted by HUMAN EVENTS and the Heritage Foundation. He is making the rounds in Washington to promote his new blog and activism website, TomDeLay.com.

DeLay isn't a dummy but rather is laying the base work for bring many contributors into his org to defeat the Clinton ticket. By making these predictions and hyping her election then on down the road as he gets his fundraising mechanisms in place he'll be out front pleading for cash and help to stop the Clinton onslaught.

Follow the money........ DeLay has had that ability over the years. jmo

"It’s this liberal coalition, working in concert with the news media, that will propel Clinton to the White House in 2008, DeLay said. “Hillary will be the next president of the United States because they have built a coalition,” he said.

I think Delay is sounding a warning here: Unless we get our acts together now, Hillary! may win. She's organized, we're not.

Delay may have a point.

I think you are correct, short of a miracle. We hear the derision from many about the 'dinosaur media'. I bought it hook, line, and sinker. But the last year I have seen the old media (MSM) rise from the ashes, define completely the debate, and take out the Senate, House, and are in the process of taking out the Administration. I, along with many here, derided Matthews as he tried to put friend of the President, Rove, and Libby behind bars. He did not get Rove, but he and his cohorts in the MSM kept repeating the lies on all of the news stations, and they simply overwhelmed the Republican. Lies, euphemeism, deceit,...all tools of the left and the lawyer, but when it came down to it, they won employing those tools.

The dinosaur media still has a bite and it has found new resolve in defining the issues we are allowed to hear. Delay is analyzing these matters in the cauldron of reality, not fanatasy. Unfortunantly for the United States of America, Hillary and Obama will inhabit the White House for 8 years. Take a look around you and tell me who will defeat a billion dollars worth of free campaign advertisement. THe campaign has already begun.

Hillary may decide to run, and if so she has a realistic chance of winning. But she won't have Osama Obama as a running mate. Miz Hillary will already own the plantation, and Illinois, so he brings nothing to the ticket. If nominated, she will pick a white southerner as a running mate.

I get bothered by people making those kind of declarative statements. If "she WILL be the next whatever..." then there is nothing we can do. The truth is, anything is possible. She very well could be the next President, if Republicans do nothing, and the church continues to try to hide sin. The truth is, someone else COULD be elected.

"Imagine how refreshing it would be to actually have a CONSERVATIVE with a set. "

I suggest we all contact our congress critters and demand they-

1) Enact legislation opening ALL of out oil/fuel resources to immediate use! That is all oil fields and shale resources. Begin building 6-10 more refineries and more if needed. And 20-50 nuke plants. Then tell the enemies to go get skrewed.

Then, realize that most of the world not only does NOT respect us, they don't fear us. Nuke Iran and any other threatening country. We can handle any of them including Russia.

Besides, Russia wouldn't do a damn thing about it.

It is high time we took the bull by the nads and got aggressive!

I also thought about this being a warning to the party to select a candidate to stand up to Hillary. I am sorry but if our party runs John McCain I might not make it to the polls due to a sudden stomach illness as I gag when I hear or read what comes from his mouth!

I don't accept she will automatically be the next President, I do accept she will likely be the choice of the dems, but what I think Delay was/is trying to do is wake up the nay-sayers who don't bother to vote or vote third party because their basket is only half full.

The consequence of lassitude is the unthinkable, Hillary. If anyone thinks there is any resemblence to her and anyone in our party they simply have not studied the woman and what she believes. If what he says shakes people up and wakes people up then he will have done a good thing.

>"Reverse psychology" might put some fire in the belly, but >don't give the enemy quotes ammo, Tom!

Liberals have a tendency to get loopy when they have power. Pumping up Hillary is not a bad strategy. Make the Democrats believe she is electable.

I can't for the life of me imagine Hillary getting elected. For one, she elicits a visceral negative reaction in most people. Her polling negatives are unmoving because everyone knows her. There are so many stories of her time as the Wicked Witch of the West Wing that can be pulled out to demolish her.

Obama is no juggernaut, either. Americans aren't so totally dumb they'll elect a guy to the presidency who has barely had any experience. Too many in the press over emphasize his charisma.

Another factor: There is a minority of people who simply won't vote for a woman for president. Let's say 10% of people won't vote for a woman. That's a small number, but a big hurdle since elections are now won by the number of people who can fit in my house. Worse yet, from my personal experience, the group that is most biased against women is...women. I've known a number of women who wouldn't vote for a woman and wouldn't work for one. I don't support this view, but it's out there, and it doesn't help the Witch.

the time for rallying around the party's candidate is after the primary

You wait until then and you may end up with a candidate you dont like

Seems like the dems have been working on 2008 while the republicans just sit back and fight among themselves.

And just whom would that be? NEWT ofcourse!

You may dissagree with that but atleast it steers the discussion towards more healthy territory in order to prepare for 2008.

You left off my following statement.

"Before then the order of business is to get the best candidates available."

You get a candidate you like by working for them now in advance of the primaries. But you work for one you'd like to actually hold the office, not *just* one you think can beat Hitllery, or whomever the 'Rats finally nominate. We don't need to end up with a choice between a leftist 'Rat and a leftist RINO.

I like Newt, but I'm afraid he's got too many skeletons in his closet, even if unimportant ones. Screaming Dean, the DNC and most importantly the propaganda wing of the DNC, aka as the MSM, would eat him for lunch. Just as they turned Clinton's intransigence into Newt shutting down the Government.

You can say that again. And I'll say this again--If we run a liberal Republican like the media wants, we lose. The base of the party will simply evaporate--or turn to a 3rd Party.

some of them will. but that same "some" are never going to be happy unless we put up an unelectable litmus test pure social conservative who wants a wall built at the border. what good is satisfying that segment by teeing up an unelectable candidate? look at the hot threads on FR the last few days, the base has a new litmus test - lesbian women cannot have their OWN babies without being demonized. you think that is going to sell to independents?

at some point, a decision will be made - send up an unknown, "litmus test pure" candidate who is unelectable and lose to Hillary, or take your chances with a moderate, get whatever percentage of the base that is willing to come along, and get some independent votes.
