Well said. And there are good reasons why our ancestors left Europe, especially in view of the history of Europe over the last 100 years. It's a history of political, social, and moral appeasement and conflict.

I feel the widening gap between European and American values and behaviour........

When you think about it, America is only trying to hold on to the moral values that our common European ancestors took for granted in the XIX Century.

No, America got its advantage through Europe´s bad luck of having had two world wars on its soil. No wonder the best skilled people of Europe chose to escape from this place.

European immigrants came to America long before the two world wars. They came here to escape religious persecution and the lack of hope in societies, which did not have class mobility. The US Constitution articulates the hopes and dreams of this new country. America is more than a country. It is an idea, which has attracted people from all over the globe.

Europe's "bad luck" was rooted in religious intolerance, communism, nazism, and socialsm. The individual has been sacrificed to the needs of the state.

Don´t be proud of your forefathers decisions, you cannot be proud of that!

That's a silly statement. Our forefathers are the ones who founded this country and provided us with the world's oldest democracy and a written Constitution, which has stood the test of time and provided us with the foundation of our country. American exceptionalism turned an undeveloped continent into the world's most advanced, powerful country on earth in less than 220 years. This was not happenstance or luck nor was it easy and without sacrifice.

You can just be proud for what you´ve accomplished and achieved in your lives. What are you going to say to people who had not the luck to live in such nice countries we live in? That they cannot be proud of their lives?

There is no doubt that we are fortunate by birth to be born into rich, wealthy countries, but each generation must continue to contribute to the progress of these "nice countries" or they will disappear as so many great civilizations have before. There is no guarantee that our future will just be a continuation of the present. Those who have "not had the luck to live in such nice countries" do have the ability to change their own societies. You have to earn your "luck."

I would have never ever signed such a notice of intention as a teen, since my classmates probably would have seen me as the most strange and crazy lunatic you can think of. Furthermore I do not want my kids to sign such stuff since I do not understand why the public is interested into such really private decisions. Not the sex between young people is a scandal for me but the voyeuristic lust in public confessions that some people obviously must have.

And this isn't a slap at those who have different standards then you?

If you dish it out, please be prepared to take it.

You say: "The homo should not be punished for being a homo," which we have to take as foundational to the live-and-let-live environment that we live in.

But can it be that the decision to decriminalize such behavior, which has been regarded as immoral and destructive from time immemorial, began the slide down a slippery slope toward the pro-gay agenda in schools and corporations.

In other words, I don't think that evil remains static; it is either pushed back or it seizes new territory.

The US population continues to grow and is above replacement levels. Much of our growth is due to immigration, legal and illegal [about 1.5 million a year]. In less than 50 years, the U.S. Census Bureau projects that immigration will cause the population of the United States to increase from its present 300 million to more than 400 million. Most of Europe will see a decline in population during the next 50 years.

The problem with your argument is that the homosexual agenda "IS" affecting you. Turn on your TV, look at the textbooks teaching your kids about human sexuality, go into a school library and look at the books on families etc. In the 50s you had people that went "fag bashing", which was wrong. The homo should not be punished for being a homo. However, today they have passed the threshold of not being bashed and are openly advocating, advertising, and sticking their "lifestyle" in your face. Every TV show "must" have its token homo and they are always positive role models on the SITCOM (Another example "Durschgehend warme Kueche" I think the show was called). In Germany it's no different than in the US. From your gay parades, to Lilo Wanders, or in schools where they teach that being a homo is normal (more or less), they ARE sticking this into your children's face and yours, like it or not.

This is indeed true. The contemporary "political correctness" in the German society could have been arranged by the Gestapo. We have a quite famous radio moderator here in south-west Germany. His name is "Elmi". He made jokes about the German railway that offered some spechial tickets to the eldery and changed the the slogan into "warme Wochen" (Weeks for fags). In our political correct "dictature" this was enough to kick him out of the Südwestfunk (A state-TV station I have to pay money for).

You are right that Germany is secular. Nevertheless it does not make sense for me that kids have to be encouraged to make a public commitment. Kids need a loving father and a loving mother who stand by their side when it comes to the question what to do or not. You may agree that if such issues are discussed in i.e. a small church, the members usually put much social pressue on those kids to do certain things no matter if they want to or not. A free society consists of the possibility to a free decision. I also agree that sex between 14-year olds is something that should be prevented, but I do not see such public pleges as a suitable mean.

There is a passage in Julius Caesar's Gallic War about the Germans, where he states "those who have remained chaste the longest win the highest praise among their own people...They consider it a matter for shame to have sexual intercourse with a woman before reaching the age of 20..." (6.21).

There is some similar material in Tacitus, Germania 20 (sera juvenum Venus).

In another wonderful (and related) European trend, 59% of all first babies in France are born to unmarried parents.

AB, care to estimate how many sex partners these German kids who start at 16.2 years of age will have before they marry ... if they ever marry?

You Americans should be careful because your own birth rate is also in decline since many years. Maybe you live 25 years longer but then...

Yeah, there will be nothing left in the US but Mexicans, Muslims, and homeschoolers. Among the homeschool community, my family of 4 kids is way on the small end.

How's the homeschool community in Germany?

Leaving aside the rather practical potential consequence of pregnancy, early and frequent sexual partners leaves the participants as fairly emotionally empty about its significance at the time(s) in their lives when it should matter.

You would have to blame the parents for that ... clearly they put too much importance on sexuality as "bad" or "Evil". Poor kid.
