The War On Christmas Is Real

It is becoming readily apparent that there is a real war escalating against both Christmas and Christianity in our beloved country. The battle lines are determined by being a "friend or foe" of this favorite American holyday.
It seems retailers need to learn a lesson. Last year Loewe's began the festive season by selling "holiday trees," but under consumer pressure quickly returned to calling them "Christmas trees." Wal-Mart began the season by telling its employees they could not say "Merry Christmas" to shoppers. Both legal pressure and public displeasure caused them to back down from this policy. When executives from Sears discovered that people would shop according to their convictions and that most people were fed up with Christmas being censored, they immediately shipped out "Merry Christmas" signs to all their retail stores. It took a while, but Target backed down from its Grinch-like anti-Christmas marketing, as well.

Overblown if you ask me.
But I had to laugh this afternoon when a Fox News promo came on with Bill O'Reilly wishing viewers a hearty "Merry Christmas" only to be immediately followed by a very festive "Happy Holidays" sign a split second later. Seems Bill isn't even making much headway with his own company in the "War on Christmas" these days.

Overblown if you ask me. I disagree. Someone saying Season Greetings doesn't bother me but calling evergreen trees decorated with lights "holiday trees" is positively Orwellian.

Give it time. There are those who hate the idea of Christmas.
It's nothing new.

I'm an atheist. Anyone who tells me "Happy Holidays", I ask "So are you taking off the month of December, with pay, or just the 25th? Is that 'Holidays Day'?" Dopes.
I recently was at a business where both workers present said "Merry Christmas" to me and I said it was refreshing not to hear "Happy Holidays," and both women sneered and shook their heads and said, "We don't do that around here." Nice!

I am sick that the whole season has come down to a marketing ruse. But that's not a new thing. The reason the season is celebrated is to celebrate the birth of Christ. So why this is an issue, I don't have a clue. If one celebrates Hanuka....or Kwanzaa..or Ramadan...or the Winter Solstice..or..a tree in the woods..that is o.k. by me. I will respect your religion..But quite frankly, that is not what the majority of the country believes . If you want to protest..go to work on Monday, the 25th. But don't try to suppress a celebration that most believe in.
Meery Christmas..Happy Hanuka and good wishes to all.

But to me their acquiescence to Christmas vs holiday or winter celebrations , with the same red and green Christmas colors, by the way, has only to do with their bottom line which is green with no red in sight. None of them give a hoot whether it's Christmas or whatever. If they were truthful they'd call if Happy Profit Season. Profit is the reason for the season.

I might bend that way, but I believe that when people like O'Rielly start shoving it back at the opposition the way they've been shoving it at us for the same reason...
It cheapens the whole argument...
Fundamentally, it's not supposed to be a battle, it has been made into one, and those who have supported traditional values are sinking to the other sides level...I know it sounds elementary, and I am not so sure that any recourse sought at this point is just futile...
I mean I'd probably be right up there shoving Christmas in people faces, but what does that really prove???
If we are so worried about the further decline in Judeo-Christian values and traditions???
I do not believe waging a battle over the petty perceptions of a few idiots that believe we need to "dumb" down the tradition is the way to go...
I would say that on the surface it is ok to try and head the issue off at the pass, but the day it becomes illegal, or the chance that I, or someone I know, be at a credible risk to life and limb for wishing someone a "Merry Christmas", I know that will be a pretty sad day...
And we should be prepared to respond accordingly...
The war between good and evil will not be over some politically correct expression of a religious holiday...
Its going to be on a much nastier and broader issue and aspect of the conflict...

I agree that things will get nastier at a higher level..but where is the line drawn between civility and that decline? Usually, in the past, the decline starts with small steps.

Was this article written last year? A year ago, the war against Christmas was in full force. This year- I believe that we have "gotten Christmas back".

When you take this situation to its absolute lowest common denominator, you're left with a war between the forces of God and the forces of satan, just like almost every other political and social conflict in this country.

Kwanzaa is a (seven day feast) holiday created in 1966 by the militant, criminal, Marxist Ronald McKinley Everett who often refers to him as Dr. Maulana Karenga. From what I understand, it's not celebrated in Africa. I suspect its only celebrated by people who believe the Christmas season exploits African-Americans... I'll post the link to the article Tony Snow wrote on it.

Make sure every institution that shoves Kwanzaa down our throat gives equal time to Festivus.
They expect to be able to call Kwanzaa opponents "racist"but by including another made up holiday , it exposes kwanza for what it is.

That was my thought when I kept seeing the term Happy Holidays especially being a Brit as we use the word holiday instead of vacation.
So the term Happy Holidays is rather confusing to me as holiday is as you say is a time off work normally paid.

I have my Festivus pole right next to me. I'm considering putting up two this year, but I fear it might be a bit overdone.. ;)
