I have difficulty bending to put a seat up OR down. I use my cane to raise it, but she puts it down afterwards. AND she always looks before settin'.

Bingo DManA! The toilet seat argument always cracks me up. OK, let's come to an agreement - Leave it the way it is when you are done with it. But, if you really want to always have it in the down position, no problem. Just ignore the wet spots when you sit down.

An engineer would say that the "signal-to-noise ratio" is very poor with women.

"The men's was an example of spic and span polish compared to the women's."

I lived in an older dormitory when I was in college, with a large bathroom at either end of the hall instead of ensuite, and so whenever we had a party, we ended up guarding the door to the men's room for the girls, who didn't want to walk all the way down to the lobby. That was when I discovered that most women are afraid to actually sit on a public toilet, so they "hover" over it, and there's quite a bit of overspray, because we had to clean it up afterwards. And they don't put the seat up either. Of course, alcohol could've had something to do with it, lol.

Years ago my mother had one of those shelf things behind the toilet and we all were bad about leaving the lid up. Well, things kept getting knocked off the shelf into the toilet, so I trained myself to always put the lid down. Maybe if some of the guy's stuff fell in there he might think twice! (wink)

if a woman can't even LOOK to see if the seat is up, and take appripriate action, how is it the man's fault?

As a woman, I agree. My problem with the seat up position is how it looks - top down does not offend the sensibilities as much, IMO.

"...women have about 20,000 "communication events" (I love these terms the psycho-babblers conjure up) a day, versus about 7,000 for men... ."

That's because women communicate in a verbal manner, and men communicate in a physical manner.

3.)All other times, the seat AND LID are down, for sanitation and aesthetic purposes.

Having small children in the house helps train the adults to do this. Unless you like getting things out of the toilet...

This guy obviously missed the study that said women talk more in social situations and men talk more in business situations.

A (male) friend of mine once said that toilets were for sitting, urinals were for standing.

I say to men - if you want to stand up at a toilet, then wipe up the floor when you're finished.

Worse than the incessant need to talk, is the unfathomable desire to find the "hidden" meaning in everything I say.

What really sucks is the necessity for us as men to find the hidden meanings in everything women say. Women do put hidden meanings in what they say which causes confusion on the man's part, and frustration on the woman's part because she can't conceive that we don't do the same thing. This is one of my three major pet peeves.

you could always put a pic of Hillary under the lid with a down arrow and the caption "give it to me right there, big boy!"

Let me tell you what's logical.

You men act as if all you ever do is urinate.

What do you do when you defecate?

I HOPE you sit down.

Thus, if you divide people's functions into categories of 1)female urine 2)female defec 3)male urine 4)male defec

You'll see that definitely 3/4 of those categories require SEAT DOWN. You men apparently need it down some of the time.

It is also arguable that it's more practical to ALWAYS sit than stand. At least in a civilized bathroom. Outdoors camping, do what you want.

Also, seat-up we ALL get to see all the disgusting results of your activity. As I said elsewhere, standing produces alot of nasty mess all over the place.

As far as LOOKS, I don't really care much. I'm all for everyone always putting down the entire set, most importantly the "cover".

Whatever about women's bathrooms.

Pull out the ultraviolet light sometime. See how much urine is all over the toilet and the floor.

I didn't need the UV to see what was on the floor of the women's bathroom. The tampons, toilet paper, and turds were quite visible to the naked eye.

sign in men's room:

"We aim to please
you aim too, please"

or

"If your hose is too short or your pump is too weak
step closer my friend, lest you pi$$ on your feet!"

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything, but I thought of this picture when I started reading this thread.
