WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Attacks in Iraq on U.S.-led forces, local security personnel and civilians have surged 22 percent to record levels, the Pentagon said in its latest quarterly report on Iraq published on Monday.

The report also noted a rise in civilian casualties and said this was directly linked to the rise of sectarian death squads, which were helped by elements of Iraqi forces.

The report was released on the day Robert Gates was sworn in as U.S. defense secretary and as President George W. Bush considers changes to his Iraq policy. Gates replaces Donald Rumsfeld, heavily criticized for his handling of the war.

"Attack levels -- both overall and in all specific measurable categories -- were the highest on record during this reporting period," said the report, "Measuring Stability and Security in Iraq," produced for the U.S. Congress.

The average number of attacks per week rose to 959 in the three months from August 12 to November 10, from 784 in the previous three months, according to figures provided by the Pentagon to accompany the report

Is it just me, or has the level of terrorism greatly increased since the Democrats were elected? Islamofascists are emboldened now. They sense weakness.

Goes to show--- the less you fight terrorism... the more terrorism you create.

I think it's a pack of lies, given the news outlet who brung it. I wonder what the Pentagon really said?

Classic pincers movement -- ISG and traitors attacking at this end inconcert with the terror cells attacking in Iraq.

Of course you're right.

They see that more violence they cause the more spineless the American left becomes. And the more support for the war drops.

The terrorists are thrilled that the Dems won election, and clearly sense weakness.

The same weakness that gave us 9/11.

Look I agree, we WON THIS WAR. It's the bs way of fighting AFTER THE WAR WAS WON THAT IS PI$$ING ME OFF. Arabs understand power. If Muslims shoot from a mosque, level it. If Muslim shoot from a window of a home, level everything attached too that window. I'm telling you, if we had a heavy hand instead of this freakin' "save the sand flea" action we are having, the Arabs would understand.

But we still want too appease the same people that want us dead.

Unfreaking believable.

Let me half way agree with you on this. The Mujahadin are thrilled the Libs won, but the Republicans refuse to "let" Israel destroy their enemies. The mujahadin realize that America is divided, even between our Repbulican party, much less the Dems and Republicans.

It's just a statement. There is no difference between our domestic mainstream media and the enemy's media.

You know what gets me? When we went after the terrorists in mosques, the world went copmpletely berzerk whining about how we desecrated a holy instution, but when two warring sects level mosques on each other- why that's just fine and dandy-

A little 'selective reporting' by Al Jeezera!

Pentagon Quarterly Report.

http://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/pdfs/9010Quarterly-Report-20061216.pdf

From the link: "The Security Environment

In the past three months, the total number of attacks2 increased 22%. Some of this increase is attributable to a seasonal spike in violence during Ramadan. Coalition forces remained the target of the majority of attacks (68%), but the overwhelming majority of casualties were suffered by Iraqis. Total civilian casualties increased by 2% over the previous reporting period. Fiftyfour percent of all attacks occurred in only 2 of Iraq’s 18 provinces (Baghdad and Anbar). Violence in Iraq was divided along ethnic, religious, and tribal lines, and political factions within these groups, and was often localized to specific communities. Outside of the Sunni Triangle, more than 90% of Iraqis reported feeling very safe in their neighborhoods. Still, concern regarding civil war ran high among the Iraqi populace.

Seems they left out the overall 'improvements'.

"The average number of attacks per week rose to 959 in the three months from August 12 to November 10, from 784 in the previous three months, "

That spike was a result of the run up to the U.S. mid-term elections. That was the insurgency's "Get Out to Vote" effort aimed at American liberals.

That was an expected spike. D'oh!

GIVE ME SOME NEWS I CAN USE! ;-)

That's exactly true. We noticed the increased attacks on the Green Zone right after the election when the surrender monkeys started crowing. We're getting incoming mortars and rockets several times a day now.

The terrorists are definitely emboldened by the support they get from our Dems and our media.
