(FL Gov) Bush says goodbye to office

TALLAHASSEE · With the family cat in tow, Gov. Jeb Bush headed Friday for the next chapter of his life, leaving his Capitol office for a holiday trip to South Florida with no plans to return to the office.

Gov.-elect Charlie Crist takes over Jan. 2. Bush won't return to Tallahassee until that day, when he will attend Crist's inauguration.

"I'm going to take some time off, hopefully do a little fishing, golfing, resting, reading, exercising. And I've got to make a living, so I'll figure it out probably in January."

Bush, who has been governor since 1999, has already started adjusting to life as a private citizen, saying a couple weeks ago he was getting used to putting money in the parking meters near his new home in Coral Gables, as well a scouting out a coffee shop.

I've said many times we put the wrong Bush brother in Washington. Jeb, good luck, God bless, and thank you for a job well done!

Could not agree more.

A true conservative and pragmatist, who governed a very difficult state very well.

His older brother has insured that nobody named "Bush" ever sits in the White House again.

"Bush said he will miss the beauty and tradition of the Governor's Mansion in Tallahassee -- and joked this week that he would also miss the ease of living there.
"Most of the time, most people, you know, you take showers and you use towels like six or seven times before you put the next one out," Bush said. "Here, although I've been trained to do otherwise, it's any time I want, I can have a new towel."

Huh? We're just an average family, but in my house, we use a towel ONCE and get a new on. It's no big deal to wash towels..

My husband was brought up to use a towel more than once....much more than once.

I prefer a fresh one each time....

..to each his own.

I imagine Barbara Bush instilled this in Jeb....having 5 children.

What a silly statement. As if you don't have enough things to blame on President Bush already.

I like Jeb, too. Maybe he will be our Senator someday. Anybody know the statistics on people going from governor to senator?

I know it's not unusual to go from being a big state governor to being President, however...but I doubt that it would happen in this case.

Better Crist than Davis. But I'm so tired of choosing between the lesser of two evils.

My dear Parents trained us kids to use our own ONE towel a week. I think it was to cut back on the laundry..

I just don't care for the smell of a musty, used towel...go figure?

I don't have a problem with Jeb..:)

"US Senator from Florida "

I was so disappointed that he didn't run this time around. I think he could have beaten that moron nelson. I don't think that Jeb will run against Martinez, although losing Martinez would be no loss for this state. Useless RINO comes to mind when I think of Martinez, so not likely that Jeb will be running for the Senate any time soon.

I wish him and his family well. :0)

Evan Bayh in Indiana did it recently, but I think it was a matter of staying in circulation for a presidential run in his case. Personally I feel the next logical step would be the Whitehouse for a governor of a big state. Becoming a senator would be a step down for Jeb Bush in my opinion.

Agreed. We do too. That's just plain old nasty to use the same towel more than once. Gross!

The right "Bush" was elected President.

I wish Jeb Bush well, and I'm so glad he gets to have a life now. He's more than earned some relaxation and fun. He's shepharded Florida through many harsh storms. And done well for Floridians.

If I remember correctly, Johnny Carson once said...something like..after you shower or bathe you are clean. If you are clean, why would you need a clean towel for the next shower?

We were brought up..face towel... body towel...Very important.

I agree too, but I thought this was some kind of hit piece on George when I first read the title like he isn't going to do anything in the next two years or something like that. Glad I was wrong.

I don't think it's silly.

GWBush's unwillingness to protect America from illegal aliens is legendary, his decision not to veto the McCain-Feingold
incumbent protection act's attack on free speech was a mistake, he has unnecessarily spent billions of taxpayer
money on unneeded, worse than useless, and counterproductive "programs" and initiatives paved the way for the Dims
regaining control of Congress, he failed to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, corrupt current and former
government officials, etc.

GHWB failed on a number of things too, "Read My Lips" being the most obvious.

Any way, it adds up to "Bush Fatigue" for at least a generation or so, but not "ever".

I think you are correct. A family of 7 who showers once a day...YIKES that is 42 towels to wash and fold a week.

If the towel was that dirty after one use, the user obviously didn't do a very good job in the shower.

Add to that appointees like Norman Minetta (sp?) the Transportation Secretary who was fining airlines for profiling weeks after 9-11, the politically correct Robert Mueller to head the FBI, the endless "Islam is the Religion of Peace" pronouncements, runaway spending, the refusal to veto bills that should have been vetoed, the open borders mentality, the persecution of the BP agents that shot the illegal drug smuggler in the butt.

George killed Jeb's shot at the White House.

You do realize that his brother, George W., is making a deal with the DemocRATS to raise taxes, supposedly in return for then fixing Social Security?

The DemocRATS are fixing to give him and the rest of us a massive screwing just like George (RAT SCUMBAG DEM-Maine)Mitchell and the 'RATS gave his esteemed daddy?

Or are you not paying attention to what is going on?

And that is for openers; keep your eye on the Iraq war commitment too.

Oh, and lest I forget the issue of our borders and national sovreignty, "Feliz Natvidad"

Never say never. After Bush, Sr. only got 38% of the vote in '92, a lot of folks said the same thing. Jeb should've run for the Senate this year. He was the only Republican that would've been successful at knocking out an unpopular incumbent.

"Or are you not paying attention to what is going on?"

Yes, I pay attention when I see somebody needlessly try to make W look bad. It shows you care more about slamming him than you do about reality.

His dad did not blow it for him, Bill did not blow it for Hillary and W has not blown anything for Jeb.

"I see somebody needlessly try to make W look bad."

Again you are the one missing the point.

Nobody has to make George W. look bad.

He has embarked on that voyage all by himself. Please look at some of the other posts and you will see some confirmation, I think.

Feliz Natvidad and Buen Ano Nuevo!

If you've ever been a leader, then you should know that it is impossible to be successful and be popular with everyone. By taking the position you have, you simply and unfairly pile-on our President with negatives. If Jeb wants to be President, he can run. It has very little to do with his brothers performance and everything to do with his own. Your position shows either a lack of understanding, or a desire to tarnish the reputation of George W Bush.

Although I've had my differences with our current President, I remain proud of his overall performance and integrity. Especially compared to the previous President, who incidently, did not "blow it" for Hillary.

Well, you shall have your position on this.

I will not change mine;I spent a lot of my time in front of the Vice President's mansion for George W. and while there are many things he has done of which I approve, I am damn mad at him for others where I think he has compromised unnecessarily.

In the event, it being Christmas, let us take up cudgels another day.

Merry Christmas.
