Pa Pa Don't Take No Mess!

I've seen him out in the public several times in the Aiken, SC area. I guess his troubles with the local authorities prevented him from getting a CCP because, on more than one occasion, I saw him pumping gas with a .22 rifle at his side.

The death of James Brown deserves at least a mention from the President...I don't expect a national holiday (yet) or a viewing in the Capital Rotunda, but we are talking about the Hardest Working Man in Show Business here...

We are offically in Mourning at our house...

Sorry, just can't respect Brown after what he did to her and several other women.

James Brown was a troubled man in many respects. However, he will be forever remembered for influence on American popular music.

He's an example of the age old question: is it how we live our lives or what we leave behind?

I think the answer is: It's both. It's how we live our lives AND what we leave behind.

Another poster implied that he hit his wives because they wouldn't listen to him. Thanks for not posting anything insensitive like that.

Interestingly enough, how you treat others is what will last longer than the money he worked so hard for. Money comes and goes. A reputation is ALL you leave behind - good, bad or indifferent.

I haven't seen this noted, but James Brown took an active role in Nixon's campaign "Stay In School" or something similar sounding, directed at black ghetto youth. He was villified at the time by the RATS and their plantation Negroes for deserting the cause. One way or another, the campaign, like all those since and before then, had little if any effect.

How James Brown lived his woman beating life left behind the legacy of a human being that is not worthy of being called a man. What he left behind is a legacy of young men believing that denigrating and beating women is OK if you happen to be connected. His musical influence was beneficial. There was nothing good about him. IMHO.
