Here we go. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, has yet to take office, and already the ugliness begins.
Mr. Ellison plans to bring his Koran with him on Jan. 4 when he takes the oath of office. The Koran is the Muslim holy book. If Christians and Jews can bring their Bibles, why shouldn’t Mr. Ellison be able to bring his Koran?
The answer given this week by Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode was simple enough: Because Mr. Goode doesn’t believe in the Koran, Mr. Ellison doesn’t have any right to either. I kid you not.
What could be less American? Or less Christian?
In a letter sent to constituents, Goode wrote: “When I raise my hand to take the oath on Swearing-In Day, I will have the Bible in my other hand. I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way.”
It gets worse.
“The Muslim representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district, and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration, there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.”
More Muslims elected to office? More Muslims seeing our government as representative and fair? Is this a bad thing?

While I'm not convinced that Congressman Goode handled this perfectly, he raised a very interesting point. Americans don't like Islam and a recent Rasmussen Reports poll found that about 60% of American voters would NEVER vote for a Muslim, right up there with those who wouldn't vote for an atheist.
An oath sworn on the Koran is, of course, worthless to a non-Moslem.
If the koran was good enough for mohammed atta, it should be good enough for Mr. Goode. /s

It is frightening how much power the LSM still has.
But in the end, given the many alternatives that now exist to the LSM, you have to blame our fellow Americans for actually believing what they, in this case, didn't read in the LSM and putting us all in extreme danger. Last month they voted in many who will be even more dangerous than Ellison.
Actually the fact that Ellison feels the need to be sworn in on any book is interesting due to the fact that it isn't required or even common as far as I can tell.
Congressman Goode has raised a good point and should stick to it and not back down.
Our bloated bureaucratic socialistic government in the modern age is barely representative, and often not fair. That fact aside, I seriously doubt that many Muslims are ever going to see it as representative and fair.
When the public is seeing all the world conflicts involving islamists it's not hard to understand why the majority have a problem with muslims. Secondly, their reactions to 9-11 and refusal to condemn the terrorists just adds to their problems..

I'm sure this is true, and I really can't completely condemn Minnesota voters. Don't forget that ultra-conservative Republican Michelle Bachmann was elected there in this very austere, anti-Republican environment and GOP Governor Tim Pawlenty won narrowly, too.
But truthfully, how many congressmen lie when they put their hand on the Bible? To me the point is moot except that it may raise awareness that the Koran encourages Muslims to lie to infidels.

Anyone Susan Estrich demonizes can only be good for America. Virgil Goode represents a strong current in American politics. Like Ronald Reagan, he was a loyal American who happened to be a Democrat. Because the Democrat party has increasingly placed party based on socialist ideology before loyalty to God and country, he left the Democrat party. Or as Ronald Reagan said "I didn't leave the Democrat party, it left me." Goode needs to keep reminding voters that the Democrat allegiance to multiculturalism has and will include attempts to appease and even aid moslem militants. A candid answer to who are America's real enemies by Vermont's senators Leaky Leahy and Bernie "the Communist" Sanders would be conservative Republicans, not Islamic Jihadists. A fortunate circumstance for conservative Republicans would be the nomination of Barak "Hussein" Obama (or as mush-brained Teddy Kennedy called him, "Osama Obama") to head the Democrat ticket. Sharing a name with the Butcher of Baghdad will not endear him to most voters.

One of the most disturbing facts about Ellison being a muslim is that every muslim in America whom I ever ever seen or heard has proclaimed allegiance to Islam above all else. To that end, I question Ellison's commitment to the United States and his willingness to work in our best interest.

You should check out the Minneapolis city council and Mayor's office. Everyone in Minneapolis government is a certifiable leftist militant. Fidel Castro would get 70% in this district. I live in a very Lavender neighborhood on the west end of the district. The Lavender houses on my block were 100% identifiable by the Amy Klobuchar signs in the yard. When you combine that with the urban poverty pimping downtown, no rational candidate would ever have a chance.
