ROFL I didn't have to look past post #2 to find the anticipated homage to Sandy Berger.

Absurd. Gates was DCI until 1993 until Clinton replaced him. Why would you make such a ridiculous statement? Even his successor didn't do as you claim.

Very true...

I just saw a blurb on Fox News that said that Sen. Frist and Denny Hastert will be representing the Congress during the Pres. Ford memorial service this week, because the new Congress doesn't become official until Jan. 4th...

SOOOOOOOO..I would like to have Frist or some GOP for the few days they are still in the Majority to bring this up and demand a hearing...and SEE how much Pelosi and Reid want to "clean up" Washington..

Yeah that must be it-either that or an old edition, because I can't find the "right" to an abortion in it and my copy still has the second amendment in it.

It seems like all of the news that goes against Pres. Bush comes out during sweeps...and all news that could be good news for him....is buried during a weekend or holidays.

AFAIK...this is good news for Pres. Bush, in that...it just shows that there are people in these agencies that are actively trying to harm him...

"The above shows that not only the personnel should be checked again but the drab cleaning woman could be the criminal."

I wonder if the janitor's name is Mohammed or the the cleaning lady's name is Chiquita.

Um, I suggest everyone go read the article instead of basing everything on a single sentence. What's happened to FR? People used to be sceptics on this forum now they just "follow the leader"

This is in response to a FOI request.

"'That's an amazing number,' an academic who has studied the FBI's record-keeping procedures, Athan Theoharis of Marquette University, said in an interview yesterday. 'These are very sensitive investigations. ... They could be called to account for whether they are monitoring reporters. These are records that should be handled very well.'"

INDEED, it's an amazing number.....but one (1) is too many!!

This is all Hillary's doing!

so what, the files are missing, what difference does it make.

"In response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, the FBI said it identified 94 leak investigations since 2001, but that the investigative files in 22 of those cases "are missing" and cannot be located. "There is no physical slip of paper on the shelf which indicates that the file has been charged out to a particular FBI employee, so therefore there is no way of knowing where the file may actually be," an official in the bureau's records division, Peggy Bellando, wrote in a December 22 declaration."

Loonie reporter: Turn over your files on the leaks

FBI: Sorry, love to do that, but we can't find them right now.

According to the article:

"In response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, the FBI said it identified 94 leak investigations since 2001, but that the investigative files in 22 of those cases "are missing" and cannot be located.

"Ms. Bellando's declaration said the 22 missing files pertain to 51 cases listed as closed and not to 43 other leak cases listed as pending."

So it appears that the records that the ACLU or others who requested the information could not be found, at this time, for the closed cases. But the ones open,(NYT leaks), are still open.

Here are some comments from MacRanger over at Macsmind regarding the Administration increasing the legal staff over at the White House with pending investigations:

On top of this there have been numerous leaks of classified documents to the media and in at least two cases the leaks are suspected of coming from the intelligence committees of the Senate and House. While the Grand Jury investigating the leaks in Alexandria continues, the focus as been on those two offices. With Democrats taking the head chairs of both committees I am expecting things to accelerate get quite nasty in the coming months. Remember, most federal grand juries can last up to 18 months, this one has been going on for only six. If you are going to possibly indict US Senators or other high ranking politicians the evidence against them has to be rock solid.

See the article on the thread:

Bush is bracing for new scrutiny (of Democrat probes)

And into this unraveling miracle of disorganization and waste, we are lucky to have an Islamic presence in the US to show us the way out of this.....or at least to figure out a way to take advantage of the situation.

since they are (and likely never will be) any active prosecutions going on here, these FOI suits may be the only way the public ever gets to see what has happened here.

the "decay and incompetence in law and government" would probably better be seen as starting with the utterly wasteful and symbolic project of compiling the data from the "investigations" in the first place, since the investigations usually result in NOTHING, no one punished, mere exercises in the "work of a democratic system." THERE is where the true farce lies. And they call themselves adults. And we pay them for this.
