Now God's in His Heaven, and all's right with the world....
Ping to today's thread...
On the news on my Public radio station WQED, they told the story of his execution ....... the young boy who had a "hardscrabble", "impoverished" upbringing......blah, blah, blah.
It was all summed up basically to say that that is what made dear Saddam grow up to kill hundreds of thousands of people.
More of the same from Lefty Radio.
I gave up listening to it a long time ago. Saddam did have a hard childhood, but so what?
Crashed early myself...woke up about 2 hours earlier than normal with a sick tummy (too many ginger and cinnamon altoids yesterday)...
But I hear you. There were men in his early life who treated him terribly.
We're given choices. He chose the dark path.
So when are they NOT "outraged" about something?
Particularly when they are spoon fed a version of information designed to punch their buttons.
Now FOX is doing it. Talking about Saddam's young life.
I guess that's what comes from not having toilet paper available to you?
Neat pix array on MELDT -- thanx for keeping them small in deference to us dialup dinosaurs....
Journalists are "no longer safe" in the Gaza Strip, according to a report released Wednesday by Reporters Without Borders (RWB), an international association committed to protecting the freedom of the press.
The report, entitled "Palestinian Journalists Caught in the Gaza Crossfire" and based on a fact-finding mission carried out by RWB earlier this month, scathed Palestinian factions "that do not hesitate to target media that criticize them."
The report highlighted lawlessness in the Gaza Strip and infighting between Palestinian factions as causal factors in the recent decline of press freedom in the territories.
In the past year, "Palestinian militants caused damage to seven news media by setting them on fire or smashing equipment, and attacked at least four journalists... [and] six foreign journalists have been kidnapped by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip," says RWB.
The report also had harsh criticism for the IDF: "This year alone, the Israeli army attacked or threatened 16 journalists and wrecked the premises of three news media." After meeting with Palestinian and Israeli authorities from December 4-7, RWB stated: "The Palestinian factions and the Israeli army profess a desire to respect press freedom and the work of journalists, but the statistics belie their claims."
The report concludes "that the safety of journalists will never be taken seriously until the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli army decide to apply the law by bringing those responsible for crimes against journalists to justice."
RWB published recommendations for improving the quality of freedom of the press in Israel and the territories, such as creating a distinctive insignia so that journalists can be more easily identified.
In a related study, RWB ranked the freedom of media in 168 countries in 2006. Israel ranked 50th on the list, ahead of the United States (53), Jordan (109), and Egypt (133). Finland, Iceland, Ireland, and the Netherlands shared the highest ranking atop the Worldwide Press Freedom Index.
I was hoping to see Saddam pull a James Cagney in "Angels with Dirty Faces" at the end.
IMO, a lot of Iraqis will be celebrating today. Little to nothing will be said about it. Instead, the media will concentrate on Sunni "retaliation" for Saddam's execution, totally ignoring the fact that Sunnis were murdering Shi'ites and vice versa long BEFORE he was ever sentenced.
Let all other terrorist kingpins be given notice: they are NOT above punishment, and punishment by your own people is NOT martyrdom.
Rest in eternal torment, Saddam.
I would have figured he'd say "the devil made me do it."
It's the Basques...ETA....
Absurd. Would love to see what standard they use. NO other Govt in the world, other then the US, has their National Security secrets published with blazing headlines in their largest daily newspaper with no official retribution delivered to the traitors. By any objective standard the USA ranks number one. The scum "journalists" pretty much do what ever they want here. We only wish we ranked number 53.
The media always puts out that crap about a bad childhood whenever a serial killer is sent to trial. Hundreds of millions of people have had a tough time growing up and DIDN'T commit crimes against humanity as adults, but the left always ignores that. We pity murderous dictators at our peril.
I hear you
Dont forget how they tend to blow up when outraged. That can ruin a perfectly good day rather quickly.
Oh, CNN will jump right on that, right? Pfffft.
Oops, it didn't work.
Seems kind of stupid of Palestinian groups to attack the people who are their best allies...
