Here's hoping that 2007 is better than 2006!
And, as always, soliciting FReeper comments, observations, and opinions.
Happy New Year, LOL!!!!
don't know what a Bew is!
To the best of my knowledge, there was no contest last week!
Congratulations to ALL posters!
Good Morning AB
I too hope for a better '07
Good morning and Happy New Year to you, too!
Good morning AB, and everyone. Congratulations to everyone for last week.
Happy New Year 2007? Or, I'm glad 2006 is over. I'm not sure which one applies more.
Lugar on Fox News? Ugh.
:-) Better New Year?
Yes thats right folks; its stampede time!
Will it be at the counterclockwise walk around the rock to turn back time? Will it be at the symbolic stoning ritual where all good Muslims throw rocks at a pillar representing women? Maybe the Wahabbi wing of the Sunni Muslims that run Saudi Arabia will open fire on the Shiites if they get uppity like in '87. Well just have to wait and see.
2006: 345 die in a crush during a stone-throwing ritual
2004: 251 trampled to death in stampede
2003: 14 are crushed to death
2001: 35 die in stampede
1998: At least 118 trampled to death
1997: 343 pilgrims die and 1,500 injured in fire
1994: 270 killed in stampede
1990: 1,426 pilgrims killed in tunnel leading to holy sites (crushed? Stampeded? Trampled?)
1987: 400 die as Saudi authorities confront pro-Iranian demonstration
More likely that the b and n keys are right up against each other, but your answer is better, literally!
Here 's this sunday's Media Nuggets
###### Hillary Clinton building media-castle for 2008, placing her favs @ CBS - 1. CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who was her speech writer & policy-crafter & 2. Bill Clinton's pal & Lincoln bedroom guest Rick Kaplan.
###### "Weasel 61" & "Broomstick 11" - Soldiers' creative Code Naming! U.S. Army Captain Ben explains. Hillaryous! (Bagdad hotel balcony media made a judicious decision not to report this.)
###### MSNBC's Dan Abrams days are numbered? Time Magazine signs up Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol as "part-time contributor". ABC.Com signs up Hugh Hewitt as weekly contributor. Fox signs up Sean Hannity for Hannity's America show on sundays @ 9pm ET starting next sunday (H&C took the maximum ratings slide). Tiki Barber leaving FOX News to join ABC's Good Morning America.
###### MSM - Country on Wrong track. Nope. South & West track. Census Bureau 2006 state population estimates show that Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Texas and Utah certain to gain at least one seat. Texas could pick up as many as 4 congressional seats; New York and Ohio could lose 2 seats. The South is rising again.

See U all in 2007!
It seems that Wolfie has a representative from Iraq on his show every week. Does anyone watch these interviews?
Thanks for the thread AB and happy New Year!
Happy New Year, Alas.
Since my day begins with Lugar and Vilsack, I may fall asleep with my head on the keyboard.
Given your last media nugget, I suppose Russert has on Woodward to tell us all how evil Saddam thought Dubya was to invade his poor little country based on a lie.
No kidding, Woodward loves to "quote" dead men, since the can't refute what he has them say.
OK...I will switch over and see what Lugar has to say. I bet I will get aggravated within the firts 5 minutes.
Believe me, if there were a way to send you the desired cold front from Denver, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Body was flown by US to the village where he was born.
Happy New Year, Alas Babylon!
Wow, moonbat city already on MTP>
Lugar says Maliki is under great pressure from the militias, and that we need to not give him arbotrary deadlines.
Diplomacy is important.
Oh, good grief. Timmy is using Ford's death to relive Watergate.
Lugar says we need to think about stability in the region. Lugar says he doesn't know whether he supports a surge in troops or not. Says asministration needs to take Congress seriously, and lately they have not. (Miss Marple agrees with the President...I don't take them seriously, either.)
Wanna bet Tim doesn't use Brokaw's statement about Nixon, "in the bunker" to equate with President Bush at this time?
Odds are he will tie it in.
Talks about enlisting Congress help before proceeding.
Lugar is living in lalaland. Like there won't be hearings anyway.
The reliving of Watergate is becoming orgiastic. Timmy is so excited he can hardly contain himself. This is really hard to watch.
I am seriously aggravated with Lugar, who seems not to know the rules of engagement, who the enemy is, etc. Says he hasn't been "informed."
Lugar should shut up and support the President. What party are they both in?
There is nothing unsound in the request that the President has asked for, since it comes from the Generals in the field. Lugar is not in a position to question their judgement on the matter. Those that are are simply playing politics with the issue.
"Dick, the dems don't need any help attacking the administration. Your 'attempts' to sound fair have made you a laughingstock."
I can't stand Lugar .. he gets on my every last nerve
Fools' names like fools' faces...
Well... well... well...
If ABC.com is going to have Hugh Hewitt, I'll watch or read it. The other people could very well increase ratings for the programs they are on. Hewitt wrote about this a bit ago, IIRC.
Says he hasn't been "informed."
His staff must be on vacation.
What a totally stupid thing to say on camera. Perhaps this is an example of why Chuckie, Dick, Harry and Nancy are so giddy. They know how clueless our Republicans on the Capitol really are, and they are anticipating a free ride for the next two years to do whatever they will.
Vilsack on now saying we shouldn't look back and then proceeds to trash the White House for mistakes and not listening.
He is talking very fast.
I hope the DoD bills his retched family for the flight.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE FREEPERS!
True .. but that is exactly what he and others are doing
Wallace trying to pin Vilsack on whther he will take on Democrat special interests. Vilsack won't answer and is doing a tap dance about ANWR. HA!
lOL spring will be there before you know it!!
HA! Vilsack has to answer about his low numbers in the polls, even though apparently he is fourth in the polls in IOWA!
I'm going to rest my hopes against this on two Republican Senators; Jeff Sessions and Mitch McConnell. I don't think they will roll over but could be wrong.
Thanks for posting that, rodguy. I put it on the MELDT thread earlier and sent Spc. Salzman a note of thanks. He's at Walter Reed so I hope he gets to meet some FReepers.
Then like I said, it's all politics. That's why Luger should be ashamed. He's a republican trashing a sitting Republican President over politics. Is it any wonder why the Republicans lost the Congress?
Lugar, you old senile fool, you lost your committee chair over backstabbing crap like this. You and Specter, Hagel, McCain, DeWine, and all the other DBM butt kissing idiots. Will you ever learn? Dems stick together. Is it asking too much for you to do the same?
