God Bless Vice President Cheney!

May the Lord place a shield of goodness around him and help him beat the ravenous Rats that nip at his heels.

Thank you so much for being the great American Patriot, great father/grandfather, and loving husband that you are, Sir!

---Give 'em hell Sir!!! --Show them what being a REAL and DECENT man is all about!

I realized Mr. Cheney was my kind of guy when he told Senator Leaky Leahy to go .... yourself! That was really cool, and it royally pi$$ed off Leahy too, and I'm waiting for round two with Mr. Cheney and the wussy senator. It will be fantastic to watch.

I think you are right. A democrat congress doesn't want to go up against someone like Dick Cheney. In the battle of wits, they are unarmed.

The Dems (Rats) cannot work out the VP. A traditional conservative Republican ... but, but, not ... has a strong wife and daughters - that if anything enhance the man not deminish him.

A wife that has a brilliant independent mind, has always worked, 2 daughters with independent careers of their own and who have shown great skills during 2 Presidential campaigns.

In ways they must envy this he would be the ideal poster boy for them but instead he is a Republican from an ultra conservative republican state (Wyoming), despite comments in the press he continues to publicly support his younger daughter and she is included in official events such as 9/11 commemorations, invited to White House dinners and was at the State Funeral of former President Gerald Ford 2 days ago. Many other politicians despite their own personal views would have not have risked further possible press attacks but this man has courage and deep love and affection for his country and family which allows him to overcome all these criticisms and remain a strong man and do what he believes is best for country, his President and his family.

How the dems must hate this - God Bless Dick Cheney

Leahy better be careful. I wouldn't want to see VP Cheney make him cry again.

Whats laughable about all these articles is that they assume there was some wrongdoing and that people like the VP are scared to testify.

The first test will come in the criminal trial of his former chief of staff, Lewis “Scooter” Libby, charged with lying to a grand jury during an investigation into how a CIA agent’s name was leaked. The trial, due to begin in two weeks, is likely to set an ignominious precedent when Mr Cheney becomes the first vice-president to testify in a trial.

And Sandy Berger walks around free! What's wrong with this picture?

Listening to Cheney's speech euologizing President Ford, I couldn't help thinking that maybe the best thing we could ask for would be for President Bush to step down and hand the reigns over the Cheney for the next 2 years. That thought may anger some here on the FREEP, but I couldn't help thinking it.

Also IMHO they seem to forget (on the surface or more accurately want the public to forget) that Dick Cheney was a Congressman from 1978 - 1991 - 10 successful election campaigns never lost an election with his name on the ballot including 2 Presidential campaigns. He is well versed in ways of Congress and he will not be phased or intimidated by appearing before any Committee. As he has however said they actually do not have the powers to call the Vice President they can ask and like Gerald Ford did he can agree appear before Congress but they cannot force him to do so. What I suspect they will do though is attack him through the main stream liberal media where it is more difficult for him to counter attack apart from doing a interview with a conservative outlet which often looks like a cheap shot, - the Dems are clever and I am certain this will be their tactic as to face Dick Cheney elsewhere they know they will loose.

A court case obviously is a different matter but his years of experience in the House and as CEO of a multi national company once again are ideal preparation for such an appearance.

Lets be honest whenever such an article appears we know the truth it is because they actually fear him and know by him telling the truth he exposes their lies.

He learned under 2 great mentors Gerald R Ford and Don Rumsfeld how to deal with criticism and the press and does so with good humour despite how the press try to show that this is not the case.

They have successfully portrayed him as a dark secretive figure whereas if one follows his career, listens to his speeches which are normally scattered with personal stories and great one liners which he delivers magnificently - this is not the same man that the press have created.

As one freeper I greatly admire often says "have I said recently how much I hate and despite the MSM".

Hopefully many Americans heard that speech and may now query the MSM portrayal of their Vice President - that is of course those who actually are aware who he is as many surveys indicate they would not even recognise his photo. Though there are many out there that do and the media is one that has formed their opinion and character of the man I sincerely pray they may question this after that speech

I know I am living in cloud cuckoo-land but one can only hope. :0)

So true, snugs!

MY idea of a great Presidential candidate for 2008 would be Lynne Cheney. Dick would hate having to put his dreams of fly fishing into retirement on hold though ;-) You're so right - she's intelligent, a great support for her husband, a fantastically motivating Mom, AND can debate as one of the best! I say...elect her! Cheney/Rice would be nice ;-)

EXactly! ...and let's not forget Mr. 90G's in the freezer that gets RE-ELECTED...there's no end to Dem stupidity. Bizarro World exists, and the Dems are living in it--heck, it's their creation!

Unfortunately because they have the support of the MSM they can live it. The MSM successfully gave the public the image of the "culture of corruption" was soley a Republican problem. The press reported the many times that Nancy Pelosi and her like said this and further gave credence that the RATS were not involved.

Those of us who are better informed and do not rely on the MSM know better but they knew the MTV generation will just accept what the MSM say as fact.

The Republicans not only have to beat the Dems but the media as well.

I thought the same. I love W, don't get me wrong, but I pray that Dick C. will have a much bigger and more public role in the next 2 years. Heck, if he's not running for president at least he can start throwing his weight around and slap the rats around a little. However, I am still adding to my prayer list that he'll be our next president.

The trial, due to begin in two weeks, is likely to set an ignominious precedent when Mr Cheney becomes the first vice-president to testify in a trial.

So, in this twit of an author's view, merely testifying as a witness in a trial is "ignominious."

Additionally, Mr. Cheney will NOT be the first VP to testify at a trial. Presidents and Vice Presidents have given testimony in other legal proceedings. If what this author is saying is that the VP will actually testify in a courtroom, even that is not a precedent -- at least not in the earthshattering sense the reporter wants to convey.

The author's second paragraph is factually erroneous, so someone please tell me why we should pay further attention to this piece?

I agree but it is an excellent vehicle for us to express our feelings in particular our dissatisfaction and hatred of the MSM

There are so many such vehicles. :)

I was just interested in discrediting the Financial Times author on the factual merits. Just so there can be no doubt.
