To quote Phil Hartman (RIP) doing his best Frank Sinatra impersonation, I say:

"Dick Cheney has chunks of people like Nancy Pelosi in his stool!"

I have no fear for Mr. Cheney and how he'll handle himself throughout this upcoming year.

I don't think you're damned if you do the right thing. Look at what we're facing now because folks didn't do the right thing?

They thought they were going to teach the GOP a lesson. Right! They have no clue of the stupidity of their childish and selfish actions and the hell we face.

I agree! Cheney could use his time in the dem's "hotseat" during the investigations to showcase his presidential mettle. I hope it will be like Ollie North, where liberal investigations blew up in their faces and made North a hero.

"Listening to Cheney's speech euologizing President Ford, I couldn't help thinking that maybe the best thing we could ask for would be for President Bush to step down and hand the reigns over the Cheney for the next 2 years. That thought may anger some here on the FREEP, but I couldn't help thinking it."

I also admire Vice President Cheney. Really wish he would run for President, but know he won't. Cheney will come through any mess the Dems throw at him as he tells the truth and they don't!

"They thought they were going to teach the GOP a lesson. Right!"

Mmmm, not sure I agree with that. The base got out. That's evident by all the conservative ballot measures that passed. Those Rs that lost did so because they didn't please their constituents. Had they pleased their constituents, they would have been re-elected.

My problem with voting straight party is that it empowers the party and weakens the people. A party can count on x percent of votes from party loyalists. Those votes are guaranteed. Since they are guaranteed, why would the party care at all about what that percentage thinks? They are voting with the party anyway.

Party-line voting gives the swings all the power. That's who gets courted, not the base. The "moderate" barely conservative/hint of liberal swing voters get the love, not the base, with it's guaranteed vote.

Guys learn early on that you don't romance the easy girls because they are going to give it up anyway. Same applies with politics. The GOP is not going to woo those who will vote for them regardless.

Sorry about the lengthy yammering. I like Lott so I voted for him. However, if the state party ever runs a Chaffee, I'm not voting for him.

I beg to differ, Mrs. Clinton had more power as v.p. then does Cheney.Define power. And, how 'bout you provide a few examples, hmm?

Well we will just skip over the 900 FBI files illegal obtained by the White House and "discovered" in Mrs Clinton's personal office. And just skip over that whole Hillary's Health Care Task Force scam. So how about the White House Travel Office?

Mrs Clinton got long time Govt Bureaucrats in the White House Travel office not only fired by criminally prosecuted on totally fraudlent charges just so she could award the White House Travel Office Contract to a couple of fat cat Democrat Campaign Contributors. Considering how difficult it is to even fire a Govt worker much less have them criminally prosecuted. Much less criminally prosecuted on charges that were told works of fiction, I would say Mrs Clinton demonstrated considering more power, as well as a complete lack of anything resembling ethic, then anything Dick Cheney is even accused of doing.

You do not just vote for the party you vote for the people that will control the Govt Bureaucracy and the Chairmanship of committees. Splitting your ticket simply for the sake of some silly notion of "balance" is one of those pseudo intellectual past times of people who simply do not understand how out system of Govt works. It sounds all wise and "moderate" but it is an incredibly foolish thing to do.

By splitting your ticket you simply guarantee that half of your votes are actively working against the other half. You might as well stay home since you are effectively canceling out and good you vote may do.

Somehow, I don't think Dick Cheney is trembling in his boots at the thought of either the worthless trial of Scooter Libby, or the investigations in Congress. Everyone already knows that the trial is useless at this point, because someone already admitted to having done the deed of which Libby is accused and for which he is on trial. I'm hoping that Libby's lawyer will move for all charges to be dropped on the first day of the trial, and the judge will agree.

As far as the investigations are concerned, I believe Cheney has more brainpower than most of the Democrats combined, and really, what does he have to lose? He's not running for office again, and neither is the President. He'll give them hell, or worse, he'll tell them the truth and they'll THINK it's hell, to paraphrase Harry Truman, IIRC.

I agree! I am looking forward to seeing Cheney giving them much more than they can stand, and it will backfire on the Dems big time! Vice President Cheney is my favorite possible candadite for President, but I don't blame him for not going for it! I know fishing is more fun!

We've used Halliburton since WWII. Bubba used them, too. In fact, IRRC, Bubba initiated the no-bid contracts. Like there are no Dems that work or benefit from Halliburton.

Yesterday, a person we know (not well, I guess) sent us a lewd email of a couple playing sex games--the woman was the constitution and the man was playing GWB. There was no nudity, but there was simulated sex. At the end of the scene, a message about GWB and the Constitution scrolls by. It's a good thing I had the sense to send the children out of the room before I opened the attachment. I should have known better than to open it. But this person had sent us an email a few weeks ago that was relevant to our lives. I did not imagine that the person would send anything lewd.

The point to this is that the RATS are indeed gearing up for a nasty fight. We have the choice of letting them spew their nastiness or keeping civility in the forefront. Character does matter.

How terrible .... civility and gentility are more and more falling victim to this coarsened culture spawned by the Dimwits. Every time there's an occasion to see our President, Vice President and admin in public situations .. especially notable to me was Pres. Ford's ceremonies .. I'm struck at how vastly they outclass the Rats in every way. There's just no comparison. God help us.
