Pro-Abortion Pelosi Insults Catholic Faith

The new speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, is showing what I consider extreme arrogance, even for a pro-abortion figure in public life who claims to be a faithful Catholic. Her handlers are making it abundantly clear that anything goes in their effort to showcase Pelosi and her life story, including the use of a Catholic Mass to cement her public image as a Catholic mother and grandmother.

That, my friend, is a disgrace that I cannot ignore.

As a practicing Catholic mother and grandmother, I am highly offended that this woman would use the influence of her new office to flaunt her Catholic label while advocating the brutal murder of preborn children without apology. This “mother and grandmother” from California’s 8th District in San Francisco has been one of the most outspoken advocates for unrestricted abortion in Congress.

Perhaps the only thing more egregious than her support for aborting preborn children is her inability to comprehend the sacrilegious nature of her intended use of the Mass scheduled for tomorrow at Trinity University, a Catholic institution in Washington, D.C. To prevent such a scandal from occurring we have respectfully asked Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C. to intervene and cancel any festivities at the Catholic college, particularly any attempt to honor Pelosi during Mass.

The reasons for this request are best characterized by quoting Archbishop Wuerl’s recent commentary, “The Human Quest for God.” He faithfully wrote, “a reflection on the moral order in the universe can lead us to a natural knowledge of God. We are aware that our actions should be just, truthful and temperate.”

The act of abortion is a grave injustice perpetrated against an innocent human being created by God in His own image. Those who advocate this act are deceiving mothers by suggesting to them that their children are nothing more than disposable problems and instilling in these mothers the idea that “freedom of choice” empowers them to make a decision that results in the death of their child. There is nothing temperate about the act of abortion. In fact, aborting a child falls into the category of one of the most intemperate acts currently engrained in the culture.

A thinking person with any sort of moral sensibilities would conclude that the bald-faced contradiction between advocating for abortion and heralding one’s attendance at a Catholic Mass is simply outrageous and should not be permitted. While it is usually the case that we should not prevent another person from attending Mass, which is a source of grace and blessing, this is no ordinary grandmother attempting to reconcile her abortion advocacy with her God; this is the soon-to-be speaker of the House making a public spectacle of the Mass for political purposes as she attempts to improve her public image.

At what cost does a prelate of the Catholic Church permit such an atrocity?

Archbishop Wuerl wrote in the same column that we “hear in the voice of our conscience,” which is a “manifestation of the presence of God,” the insistent call to goodness. “Conscience is described as the still, quiet voice of God within each of us,” he said. It seems to me that the archbishop would be doing Congresswoman Pelosi a tremendous favor if he were to quietly but firmly inform her that her staff’s public and repeated focus on the Mass as part of her “agenda” is an insult to her faith because she has not listened to the voice of God, but rather has succumbed to the voices of the culture of death. Otherwise, she would not champion abortion on demand as a “right” in America, nor would she be continually casting her votes against even the slightest pro-life legislation.

Our request of the archbishop is based on the most basic of Catholic teachings: That the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is both a reminder of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice for us by His death on the Cross, and also an opportunity for Catholics, with contrite hearts, to come to Him and receive Him in the sacrament of the Eucharist. The Mass is not a political rally; the Mass is not a public relations event; the Mass is not an “extreme makeover” for an intransigent, pro-abortion politician.

Perhaps, as our public statements on this tragic state of affairs settles in on the minds and hearts of those closest to Pelosi, she herself will realize that her choice of venue is more scandalous than it is anything else. Perhaps that still, quiet voice within will invite her to cancel her public forays into a Mass that she might otherwise have attended without the public hoopla and without the disingenuous statements of those who work for her.

Perhaps, as Archbishop Wuerl wrote, Pelosi will come on her knees before the Lord, publicly repudiate her support for abortion, human embryonic stem cell research and other crimes against life, and “respond to God’s loving call with a ‘yes’ of faith.”

If not, we hope and pray that Wuerl intervenes for the sake of every believing Catholic, young and old, who knows that every single abortion is an act of murder. For the sake of all those who believe, we beseech the archbishop to act in defense of Christ, regardless of headlines or public image. We need his leadership and, as a Catholic grandmother myself, I realize that Pelosi desperately needs his moral guidance as well. Time to contact Archbishop Wuerl (Archdiocese of Washington DC) to request that Pelosi not be allowed to disgrace the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with her pro-abort politics

I would only add that the development of self-discipline is so crucial to success in life that eludes the victims of liberals. That's why distributing free condoms doesn't help people much. Catholic education was based on a discipline that public schools lack.

Another poster on an earlier thread said that Wuerl, while he may be conservative in some ways and is opposed to abortion, is a big-time Dem. This poster was not hoping for much from him. I hope he proves us wrong. The bishops have been getting away with this "seamless garment" thing, which essentially means that accepting Dem welfare-state positions is as important as protecting the unborn, for so long that I think they've become very confused.

Abp Wuerl is expected to be appointed a Cardinal later this year, btw, as is normal for the DC bishop.

Yeah, and perhaps Not!

The film clip used by TV news to show the 'dignitaries' visiting Ford's remains in the Rotunda, has President and Mrs Bush bowing their heads, his parents walking up to the casket, the Clintions smirking, and Ms Pelosi making a very grand Sign of the Cross.

It is a terrible shame that she and our senator, Barbara Mikulski, who both had 16 years of Catholic education, are such terrible representatives of our Faith, and of Baltimore; and in Nancy's case - of Trinity University. I'm sure the founders of the order who run Trinity, the Sisters of Noter Dame de Namur, are spinning in their graves. Unfortunately, too many modern nuns believe so wholeheartedly in the platform of the dem party, that they either 'overlook' the plank on abortion accessibility, or actively support abortion in the name of the "poor."

Who put her where she was put there by all the people harping about Bush on the rep side instead of sticking up for reps. The oh we don't always get along with the president and gave the libs More fuel on the fire. Whose fault is it but the reps holy rollers who wanted to teach the country a lessen by not voting. Now we have this, we have to love her and her comments. Does anyone really think the catholic church will disavow her actions, they could not handle the priest issue let alone her? Come on it is nobody's fault she is in power but our own. Even God said tend to your own house first. What lesson did we learn,if you don't vote bad politicians are elected by good people who do not vote?

Don't get mad at people who didn't vote because they did not have a decent person to vote for. I agree that people should vote, but the GOP blew it by claiming to be socially conservative and then getting out of control with spending, pandering to big business, and forgetting who got them in power. The President, as good a man as he appears to be, hasn't helped either. In 2008 we need to have a candidate around whom we can rally. We need someone of real faith and moral fiber. Brownback is the only one I see out there who fills the bill, but it would be great if 3 or 4 people like him stepped up (Santorum, etc.).

Sorry to say, but it basically depends on who you are and/or how much money you have.

Ok here goes. Do you see one of the libs condemning a liberal . By not supporting the reps you got stuck with the demos who, I am sure are going to care what any conservative thinks. There is an old saying be careful what you wish for you might get it. By so called punishing the reps , we and me included got stuck with the wonderful libs in congress and maybe impeachment of a good man who does what he feels what was best for America in our security issues. Like I said the demos really care what freepers think , why should they ? They are now the winners and the freepers now mean nothing again. But I shall remain a freeper because it is what I believe in and maybe Brownback is the right man, don't know yet.

The blame cuts both ways. The Republican leadership thought they could spend two years kicking their base in the face and the base would have no choice but to vote for them anyway. As it turned out, they were wrong.

Then there are the conservative purists who are unwilling to compromise, who let the party go down to defeat by withholding their votes.

Both are to blame.

I spend the past couple of years warning that Bush was alienating his base. And I spent the month before the election warning Freepers to get out and vote. The distasteful part of that is that many of them would have to hold their noses and vote for candidates who didn't deserve their support. But it was better than letting the Democrats in the gate, and I pushed strongly to vote--especially for people like Rick Santorum who really deserved our votes.

Now the election is past, and we need to absorb two lessons. The base needs to learn how to work together better--fiscal liberals, social conservatives, gun advocates, immigration controllers. Whatever our bottom lines are, we need to compromise a little and work together.

BUT. The election is over, and the Republican party needs to learn something from it. Not more compromise and shift to the center, but cleaning up corruption, and supporting a the coalition that their base is. They need to be pro-life, pro-family, pro-freedom, pro tax cuts, pro spending controls.

I'm not sure if either group has learned the right lesson, but it won't help if every faction tries to blame somebody else. The pols need to do better, the social conservatives need to do better, the fiscal conservatives need to do better, we all need to work together.

following the rules of the Catholic Church is no mean feat. Those who DO observe Catholicism in all its demands and richness deserve to be respected by the Church's declining participation in apostate Pelosi's use of its facilities and her alleged identification with the Church.

I am NOT a Catholic, but I DO respect those who faithfully practice the faith.

How Archbishop Wuerl handles this situation will speak volumes about him. Will he act courageously? Let's pray that he does. Or will he hide quietly, "go-with-the-flow," and let the posturing by Pelosi continue?
We'll know tomorrow. Stay tuned.

The lib Dems want Catholic votes, but are against Catholics.

This from afa.net:

On May 1, in a Senate Judiciary Committee session, Senator Charles Schumer of
New York said that J. Leon Holmes was disqualified as a candidate for a federal
judge appointment because of his “deeply held conservative religious views.”
Holmes is a Catholic.

On June 11, 2004, speaking of Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor, a nominee for the
appellate court, Schumer said Pryor’s beliefs “are so well known, so deeply held
that it’s hard to believe that they’re not going to influence” his decisions.
Attorney General Pryor is a Catholic. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California also
opposed Pryor because of his “deeply held religious beliefs.”

The RCC position on abortion is fully supported in Scripture, and I stand with them against abortion.

Plus, as a former a baby-in-the-womb, I am personally offended at the double-tongued behavior of Ms. Pelosi and her ilk.
