Community activists are calling for a 10-point plan to stem the violence in 2007, KMBC's Marcus Moore reported.
"Parents, you have to take control of your household," activist Ron Hunt said.
Moore reported that 115 homicides were recorded in Kansas City last year compared with 127 homicides in 2005. While the homicide rate is down, activists believe thaT means nothing without a plan to change what they describe as a gun culture among Kansas City youth.
Among the ideas being put forth is encouraging residents to post signs at their homes that read "Guns Not Welcome," asking people to remove weapons from homes with children, and demanding that city leaders address gun violence in the community, Moore said.
"If we just did 10 things, we might save some lives. We might reduce (the violence) some," activist Ron McMillan said.
Nathan Buie, whose son and a friend were killed over the summer when someone opened fire outside the Knights of Columbus Hall, said the 10-point plan is a positive step, but he would like to see more done.
"One-on-one mentoring, mentors in the school ... all of this could help, so we could stop the problem before it starts," Buie said.
Community activists said that they would like to have a public forum on the 10-point plan sometime in the future.

The root cause of the violence problem is not being attacked so the violence will not stop.
You gotta love those leftists/liberals/socialists/communists. Whenever there's a problem, the solution is to reach in and change the culture. Notice that the people in the culture aren't consulted about the need for the change. Also notice how the proposed change is presented in a pseudoscientific manner - a list will be drawn up following a study of the problem. When I saw that item about a 10-item list of proposals, all I could think of was Lenin's 5-year plan for economic development.
Then they whine about being labeled as elitist (in our country) or gather the police together for death squads to eliminate dangerous cultural elements (other countries).
How about "Guns inside, punks not welcome".
Why not start by sending the RapCrap, HipHop, Goth fantasy creeps a message? Keep on setting the bar for social acceptance lower, and see where that leads! The libs want decent people to sacrifice their freedom, because the barbarians can't be trusted with it.
The obvious solution is more jails, more jail time, and courts that are willing to enforce it.
In short, don't hold your breath.

As always, it's the gun's fault. Couldn't possibly be a lack of parenting, hip hop culture etc.
I guess I'll pitch in and do my part though. Anyone that wants to rid themselves of their evil guns in the KC area are more than welcome to drop them off at my house. I'll personally make sure they don't get loose and go on any murderous rampages.

How about children with fathers as well as mothers being taken to church every Sunday and taught that evil doers will be punished not just by the police, but by God? We have a couple of generations that have not been taught right from wrong, and government cannot cure the resulting violence. The law of the jungle rules when people consider themselves just another animal.
With tongue firmly inserted in cheek, I'm 150% behind this idea. I think that every well-meaning fool needs to post this sign in front of their house.

I would remove my tongue from my cheek on this one. Anyone who can blandly make such a suggestion, or would actually consider posting their house as a "Gun Free Zone" is too stupid to live, or breed, and deserves to be eaten by wolves...

Yes, after telling women that they only have worth if they work outside of the home, and that families and fathers are irrelevant, they think it can all be undone with signs and mentors.
How about teaching the little amoral sociopaths to respect human life?
How about teaching them self-control, so their first reaction to being "dissed" isn't to whip out a pistol, and start jerking the trigger?
Nah. Screw that.
It's easier to blame guns.
But hey, those things are never mentioned especially in Kansas City, where the victims of violence have candle light vigils where they hold hands and sing "We Shall Overcome"; blame police; blame society and most especially blame the white, racist society for everything.
