I have a dream that Pelosi, who was chauffeured to school as a child and who, with her investor husband, owns minority shares in the Auberge du Soleil resort hotel and the CordeValle Golf Club, will look over her famous strand of South Sea Tahitian pearls and forge bonds of understanding with the zillionaire corporate barons in the opposing party.

David periodically shows an "envy" problem. It seems he is invited to a lot of parties but they go home to mansions and he does not.

David has also quite the Republican Party. He did this before the last election in time for he, Pinch, Frank and Maureen to endorse no Republicans for any statewide office in NY.

Now he is even writing like them--snotty, picky, picky on consumption differences betwen the classes.

I imagine most of the radical environmentalists live far away from itchy, smelly, biting things. They watch it on TV. It's an excuse to attack capitalism.

As Thomas Sowell called them, the new 'Nomenklatura.'

I'm not even sure what point Brooks is trying to make here.... Be that as it may......

Zillionaire corporate barons in the opposing party? Like John 'Heinz' Kerry? Like Teddy Kennedy? Like Diane Feinstein (whose husband does zillions of dollars of business with China)? Like Harry Reid with his million-dollar land deals? Like Jon Corzine? Brooks spouts the same old BS - Republicans rich, Democrats poor and the Party of the Working Man! But one need only look at the Clintons to see how one gets rich from a career in public service!

"quite" should be "quit" in the second paragraph of comments.

One side-effect of McCain/Fiengold is a de-facto "Billionaires Only" rule for running for Senate. You can't raise funds unless you run in a certain social circle, but you can self-finance to you heart's content. Was anybody elected to the Senate in the past four years with a net worth of less than $10,000,000?

I must heartily disagree. As a resident of the Wine Country, I must state that even the evilest of the the ruling class recognize our best wines are quite as good as anything French; where they have us is that there 'average', 'vin ordinere' is better than our cheap stuff. :-)
