Mass. gets its first black governor, and the first Dem to be elected to that office since Dukakis in '86. If you liked Pee Wee, you'll love Urkel.

radio stuff: Herald article about WTKK lineup changes says that Barnicle's show is being cut from two hours to one due
to LOW RATINGS! Schadenfreude for the pipe artist,
the plagiarist, a yuk on every page!

Also:

Freddy, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby Doo are driving The Mystery Machine over to Guest Street in Brighton(WRKO's studios)
to try to untangle this latest mystery. (And I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for you
meddling kids!)

I went to the WRKO "Program Schedule" page and found that it now says To Be Announced from 5-6 am (had been
reruns of shows), 9-noon (DePetro's old slot), and now 7-10 pm as well! (With Savage listed at 10 pm) Todd
Feinburg is still listed as doing a show on weekends (his nationally syndicated one). When you go to
the links on the left you'll see Feinburg listed as a talk host under Howie Carr, but when you click
the link his page comes up and it simply says he's on weekends (not daily).

Speculation time: now that Tom Finneran may be available (said to be pleading guilty to perjury charges
and will serve no jail time, just pay a fine and be under probation) is it possible he's headed to
that morning slot? DePetro's site says a "big announcement is coming"--am guessing he's headed
to 'HJJ in Providence, but would 'RKO actually be bringing him back? (In related news, Donald
Trump is marrying Rosie O'Donnell and Red Sox bleacher seats are being marked down to $2 each...)

What about Glenn Beck in that 9 am slot? Is Jerry Doyle being added to nights
or not?

If the working folks of Massachusetts (at least the ones who don't work for the government) are lucky,Devil Plastic will prove to have been Mike Dukakis without the charisma when he takes his seat in the Senate in '09.

RR -
I am listening to the Duval Patrick swearing in ceremony on WBZ. I suspect Howie might talk about the invocation given by some radical rabbi. I couldn't believe what a screeching diatribe this guy went on: The huddled terrified gay and lesbians of the state, the " immigrants " forced into a life of horror blah, blah, blah.
This guy was a freaking lunatic.

Patrick was stated he wants 6 Billion in NEW spending within the state. Just today during a radio when asked how he was going to pay for everything he said " Can we afford not to spend this money ? " no answer about how he was going to raise 6 Billion but I can't imagine the states property taxes going down any time soon. I suspect new tobacco taxes, higher meals taxes and so on to start.

Probably bull, but I understand both Bobby Trav and Sal DiMasi, or at least Trav, are saying "no new taxes" (read their lips). Deval? He proudly will not sign a no-new-taxes
pledge.

---
George H.W. Bush; speech by Peggy Noonan:
"And I'm the one who will not raise taxes. My opponent now says he'll raise them as a last resort, or a third resort. But when a politician talks like that, you know that's one resort he'll be checking into. My opponent, my opponent won't rule out raising taxes. But I will. And The Congress will push me to raise taxes and I'll say no. And they'll push, and I'll say no, and they'll push again, and I'll say, to them, ‘Read my lips: no new taxes.’"

talk show slot!)

F, I, double N, E
R, A, N spells Finneran...

FINNERAN
Former Massachusetts House speaker Thomas M. Finneran, in an agreement that will allow him to avoid prison time, will plead guilty tomorrow to obstruction of justice in exchange for federal prosecutors' dropping perjury charges against him, according to two sources familiar with the deal.

Should he get jail time?
Yes 91%
No 9%

FROM BOSTON RADIO WATCH

Developing : WRKO pursuing Finneran for AM drive

Boston Herald's website is reporting this afternoon that Entercom's talker WRKO AM 680 is still very much interested in hiring former speaker of Mass. House of Representatives speaker Tom Finneran. Negotiations are still on-going between Finnearan and WRKO. However, the Herald's report states that Finneran is seeking a morning-drive slot and not, as earlier reported, the vacant early midday slot(9am-12pm) previously held by John DePetro. It's not clear whether Finneran would become a co-host with the current morning driver Scott Allen Miller or would become station's new solo AM-drive personality.

Arbitron's winter survey period begins next Thursday(1/11) and market's two fulltime talkers - WRKO and WTKK - are in the process of putting together and rolling out their new line-ups. WTKK 96.9FM has already announced this week(BRW 1/3) that will unveil its reshuffled all-live&local morning and afternoon line-up starting on Monday(1/8). Depending on how much longer the Finneran negotionations take, WRKO should also be announcing its revamped line-up any day now. WRKO will also become a new Red Sox flagship in April and its weekday night-time schedule, except for Wednesdays, will be taken up by sports.

Good news indeed. They shouldn't have hired the fraud in the first place. What amazes me is that they're giving Eagan & Braude more time again. Does WTKK think the dippy Duo are going to do better this time around? And why?

As the Talking Heads once put it, "(he's) talking a lot but (he's) not saying anything. Say something once. Why say it again?" And didn't James Brown once sing about "Just Talkin'
trash and sayin' nothin'?"

meanwhile, "breaking news" from Herald. And remember folks
the guy being mentioned in this web piece is the subject of a Howie poll that has 91 per cent of respondents saying he should be in jail! :)

WRKO owner Entercom Communications plans to move forward with talks to sign former House speaker Thomas Finneran to a morning talk radio host deal, despite Finneran’s reported plans to plead guilty to obstruction of justice charges, an outside spokesman for the radio station operator told the Herald.

"(Entercom regional chief) Julie Kahn has a great deal of respect for Tom Finneran and thinks he would be terrific on the radio and would look forward to working with him on WRKO," said George Regan, a spokesman for Entercom.

Entercom plans to go forward with a meeting with Finneran - scheduled for before news of a plea deal surfaced - aimed at hammering out a deal that would give the once-powerful speaker the morning drive time slot on WRKO (AM-680).

Entercom would not be deterred by a guilty plea to the federal charges stemming from sworn testimony he made in 2003 in a civil suit pertaining to legislative redistricting.

Finneran could not be reached for comment. A source close to Entercom said he is interested in the job.

If a deal is signed, Finneran, who has done fill-in work at WRKO, would apparently be poised to take over the WRKO morning slot currently occupied by Scott Allen Miller.
Miller declined to comment.

Someone on a radio-interest mailing list says that the likes of Barnicle and Franken being on air is not due to their
(lack of) talent but because they're a "marquee" name
that attracts attention to the station. Right.

Howie's ONLINE EXCLUSIVE column on Herald site. Read Howie's full column tomorrow.

Let the record show, there was a full moon last night. Perfect weather, in other words, for moonbats, and that’s who was out in force today on Beacon Hill.

Deval Patrick was sworn in as governor, and as he does every four years, Secretary of State Bill Galvin got to yell out, “God save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts!”

Some years that phrase resonates more than others. Today is one of those days.

If you listened to the entire 17 minutes or so, you don’t have to go to church Sunday. You’ve heard your sermon for the week. Every time he said, “Let’s reach for that!” (four times, if you were keeping score at home), I reached for my wallet.

There are going to be a lot of second collections over the next four years.

Perhaps you missed the inaugural address because you have to work, because you are a - to use a word missing in the speech - taxpayer.

Well, here’s the bottom line. You know that quarterly property tax bill that arrived in the mail a couple of days ago?

If you go over to your pile of unpaid bills and re-examine it, you’ll notice something. You still owe the exact same amount of money you did before.

Property tax relief? Didn’t Deval mention something about that during the campaign? Forget about property tax relief.

God save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts!

breaking news from Herald

The family of the elderly Leominster woman raped and sodomized by Benjamin LaGuer is demanding Gov. Deval Patrick make it his first order of business to apologize to them for trying to help LaGuer clear his name.

“The new administration is very insensitive to victims,” charged Bob Barry of Worcester, the now-deceased victim’s son-in-law. “We feel that (Patrick) doesn’t get it about real families and real crime.”

In an ill-timed turn of events for the freshly minted governor, LaGuer’s latest appeal to have his conviction for the brutal 1983 assault on the then 59-year-old woman jettisoned based on fingerprint evidence that neither the defense nor prosecutors knew about was heard this morning by the Supreme Judicial Court prior to Patrick’s inauguration.

Barry said of Patrick, “He probably wishes he never got involved with Benjamin LaGuer.”
